Fresh updates in 2019 for Ford Ranger and the introduction of the Raptor variant to model range means with worth a update review and comparison. You see, Ford has decided to market the Raptor variant as a separate model hence we really want to find out if it is worth the differentiation or whether it is our marketing.

Ford Ranger Vs Ford Ranger Raptor exterior comparison: The Regular Ford Ranger is a nice and conservative looking large Ute. Unfortunately there are too many people who modify the front end and while most of the time looks better a larger number are not complimentary. The prior model range topper the Wildtrackk has exterior add ons that look like cheap 3rd party add ons. Visually the Ford Ranger Raptor has a modified front end and matching under spoiler which looks much better. There are virtually no tacky aftermarket looking add ons bar the plastic wheel arches and side steps. The Ranger Raptor definitely is the better look despite being more minimal approach. Perhaps they expect buyer to option it up with the parts form the Wildtack version – don’t do it. Most will confuse the Raptor to a cheaper done up Wildtrak.

Ford Ranger Vs Ford Ranger Raptor interior comparison: The interior the the Ford Ranger has always been a nice place to be in with lots of space but but little spartan. They’ve done a great job especially with the otherwise conventional T-bar design but the digital dash and good size stereo screen are a distraction from the emptiness. While the normal Ranger model grade as are good enough. The Wildtrak interior is a noticeable upgrade to the regular version with ample software touch real and fake leather padding and coloured stitching. The only flaw is the vacant centre controls for the client controls which they should have put in more buttons in. The Ford Ranger Raptor interior is still based on the regular Ranger but with dual analogue dials sportier seat design and differ coloured stitching. While the Ranger Raptor interior still looks good it’s not a $76,000 interior. The nicest one still belongs to the Mercedes X-Class.

Ford Ranger Vs Ford Ranger Raptor engines and technology comparison: It’s only about $1500 option for the 10 speed Auto and 2 litre Twin Turbo diesel so why not? The Ranger has three diesel engines and all make decent power, however avoid the base model 2.2 turbo diesel for obvious reasons. The auto emergency brakes is available an option pack and their marketing is a little deceptive by labelling Emergency Brake assist and Auto Emergency Brakes regardless its not standard an any model and not available with the Raptor. All the tech features are there although it is hard to upgrade any part the stereo system so your stuck with very average sound but at least there are all the connectivity options including Android and Apple connectivity. This feature is not recommended as they take over your stereo so you can’t play the radio and connect your Google Maps for example. Stick to bluetooth connectivity. Surprisingly digital radio is not standard on most models.

Ford Ranger Vs Ford Ranger Raptor drive and street cred: To Ford fans the Raptor has the greater badge spec. For regular buyers with some brand awareness it will be curious but still unaware what it means. Knowing that fans will buy the $76,000 Raptor and the rest will buy the regular Ranger Wildtrack or even XLT with the engine option and under $60,000. Unfortunately the side badge says 3.2 and 6 (tiny speed lettering) implying 6 cylinders which it doesn’t have now, truly becomes a joke in the first place and embarrassing! the new badging will now say 2.0 and 10 speed (tiny speed lettering) which doesn’t mean much other than ‘lower’ spec than the ‘3.2 6 Speed’ badge. Fortunately they removed the badge, like it should have been in the first place.

The winner Ford Ranger Vs Ford Ranger Raptor comparison winner is the regular Ford Ranger. The Ford Ranger is expensive but you get the larger exterior and interior size one with the more powerful engine compared to there Utes in the class. The Ford Ranger Raptor is simply expensive but has the claimed engineered off road suspension and bold cladding BUT is it worth around $15000 more than Wildtrack with the same engine – no way – unless you value factory suspension upgrades and some body cladding which is ultimately what you are paying for. The Raptor branding in the home country of North America means more power and off road hardware which the Raptor Ranger only partly meets. The Ranger Raptor is not a pure marketing defined model but a watered down version of what the Raptor brand is supposed to mean. Marketing or someone at HQ may actually believe that it may steal sales from the original F series Raptor hence the short fall in spec which means they believe their own hype and explains a lot of problems Ford are having.

<td style="text-align: left;
