This is an unusual comparison by mainstream standards aka popular motoring press, as why would any one compare a urban focused SUV like the X-Trail with a genuine 4WD off-road highly capable SUV aka the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport? However we think they are comparable due to price and purpose. Sure each have their speciality and we were faced with a similar decision to sell the Prado for a CX-5. Only the arrogant or brainwashed by Press releases would think or have the opinion otherwise.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Nissan X-Trail exterior comparison : We used to think that the X-Trail was one of the best looking newly categorised medium sized SUV available. However the Pajero Sport proved that off-road focused SUVs can look better. The X-Trail has been for sale for since about 2013 but updated in 2017, regardless it is a pretty old design but at least it hasn’t dated to badly due purely to the conservative lines overall.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Nissan X-Trail interior comparison : The interior of the X-Trail is nice place to be with the base models descent enough but the higher end models probably need better material scents and features bigger screen and digital dash to be truly up to date. X-Trail’s space arrangement is very good with nice compartments in the rear but really no better than the 2010 Toyota Yaris or Honda Jazz. The Pajero Sport’s interior is very good too but it is clearly a more upmarket version of the Triton Ute. There is more space but it feels narrow compared to the X-Trail. The entry level Pajero Sport arguable feels better than the base model X-Trail.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Nissan X-Trail engines and technology comparison : Both have all the popular safety systems and gadgets dependent on model grade including auto brakes. The X-Trail features simple engine choice without any turbos in the petrol and the option of a turbo diesel engine. None are particularly powerful but produce decent power levels which is fair enough. However given that it’s competitors have more powerful engines and the the X-Trail only has a CVT an upgrade is needed. The Pajero Sport has a single turbo diesel option and is competitive with other SUVs or 4WDs in the class and more powerful than the diesel option on the X-Trail. The durable and low range gearbox and 4WD system in the Pajero Sport is clearly better than the simple on demand system in the X-Trail. The top range X-Trail has a Bose branded system for some good sound quality, essential as you can’t update the main system.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Nissan X-Trail road test: N/A

The conclusion of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Nissan X-Trail comparison is the Pajero Sport. The Pajero Sport is hard to beat due to it’s overall package. It’s fully equipped to match urban SUVs and at a price that is affordable for anyone wanting a great value 4WD. While the X-Trail has the main attraction of being a nice, normal SUV it’s quite expensive compared to what you get in the Pajero Sport. Bearing in mind that the X-Trail is missing features like the 4WD system and proper gearbox in the Pajero Sport. Ultimately, if you want a urban focused SUV in a more city friendly size than the X-Trail is a good choice. If you want one the can do everything with a bias toward off road capability and equal compromise then the Pajero Sport is as good as any in the class.

<table style="width: 75.66410714285715%;
