With the wait list to get delivery of the RAv4 especially the Hybrid version we looked at what else was available with a Hybrid engine and at a affordable price. Guess what? There aren’t many! There’s the plug in Hybrid Mitsubishi Outlander and this, the Lexus UX250h. Many will claim there’s no cross shopping between these two models due to various factors detailed below but we definitely think there will be de to the scarcity of the RAV4 Hybrid and the Lexus UX is not exactly setting the world on fire in terms of sales.

Toyota RAV4 vs Lexus UX250h exterior design: The UX250h is a nice looking small SUV and it hides it’s donor platform very well. It is based on the Toyota CH-R so it is overall smaller than the RAV4. The UX250h is like a high rise hatchback in the style of the Mercedes Benz A-Class so the UX looks more like the current Toyota Corolla with better ground clearance. It can look awkward as certain angles but that was clearly deliberate. Since many are buying the SUV style and Hybrid combo we are sure there will be some comparing the two. The RAV4 looks good but quite generic as we’ve seen all the design elements before and despite this it is clearly a great seller due to the numbers we see in traffic everyday.

Toyota RAV4 vs Lexus UX250h interior: The RAV4 interior is typical Toyota that looks good and feels good for 2019. However the design is conventional and a little boring. It feels as good as it’s price range and nothing more which is again typical Toyota. The Lexus interior is a modern and a bit more unusual than than the stereotypically ‘luxury’ brand implies. It’s more modern in look yet old school in some areas. The UX is the bottom of the range in terms of Lexus models and it does show, it’s 80-90% of the more expensive models. Overall the UX interior quality is higher than the RAV4 which you would expect but it’s it better than the Mercedes A class for example, yes since you need to tick options in the A-Class Mercedes for the premium features which should really be standard. It’s different in feel from the RAV4 or even the donor CH-R.

Toyota RAV4 vs Lexus UX250h engines and technology: They are essentially twins with minor differences dependent on model range. In terms of engines the UX uses a smaller 2.0 litre engine and the RAV4 the larger 2.5 litre. Neither are high performance but clearly adequate for 2019. Dependent on model grade the UX also has adaptive dampers, high end stereo, dashboard instruments, fully electric seats and steering and so forth and all are luxury grade features. It’s a safe win to the Lexus UX and so it should be when taking the price difference into account.

The conclusion to the new Toyota RAV4 vs Lexus UX250h comparison is probably the UX205h. Why? The UX has more features, better look and feel on the inside and outside to justify the price difference. However it doesn’t have the same space. So if space is not a consideration the UX250h can justify it’s price difference. That said if you really like the look then there is the UX200 which starts at $44,450 but there it’s only got a regular engine.

// google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
