Commodore Ute Vs Falcon Ute

Here's a comparison of the 2010 Holden Commodore Ute (VE Series)  and the Ford Falcon Ute (FG Series). This comparison is purely out of interest in that when equipped with the right engine these are not only fast but also good handling cars as well as very useful for carrying things other than the family.

Lots of other reviews and opinions about the Falcon vs Commodore but specifications are only part of the story. Choosing between the two cars based on specification is a good place to start but in the end its more a case of which one you prefer of the better pricing and package and sales staff. (Ignoring brand loyalty of course.)

The Ford and Holden utes each have their own well known problems but the models are unique to Australia. We still can't decide which model we prefer after looking extensively at both of them. Neither are 4WD only rear wheel drive hence in our 'other' section.

In terms of pricing there are often lots of special deals so its a good idea to check the local papers for ads and of course on the internet.

Holden Commodore Ute
VS
Ford Falcon Ute

The interior design of the normal Ford Ute is better than the Holden. The only thing we could possibly pick on is the relatively small dials.  The high spec the model the nicer it feels. The interior design of the Holden Ute is nice but doesn't give that feel good factor as the Ford. That said the high spec the Commodore interior gets nicer eg HSV versions not consider here but the interior looks and feels tacky rather than stylish.

The exterior design of the Ford and the Holden are modern and good looking. The cleaner and conservative lines of the Holden Ute make it easier on the eye than the Ford but it would not take much more than a restyled body kit for the Falcon ute to match the Holden in that regard.

The engines, transmission and steering despite being different in design turn out differently on the road and have a different feel. We really think they are similar except that the Holden had more vibes than the Ford, at least around town. Both are quiet and have plenty of performance even in mid spec XR6 and SV6 versions.

There are so many variants and options for either car that it is difficult to give you a generalization even taking the drive into account. However in terms of value for money the Falcon wins. You really need a long term review to decide on which one is better.

For now we prefer the Ford Falcon Ute in the XR6 guise only because the interior is a nicer place to be.
