Welcome to the all new Hyundai Kona Vs Mazda CX-3 comparison. The CX-3 has been around for nearly 2 years and is a good looking small SUV based on the Mazda 2, although it is hard to tell size wise. The Hyundai Kona is likewise a good looking USV as well and claimed to be a high rise version of the i30. The CX-3 is a great package and one of the best sellors in the Australian market so will be interesting to see how the new Kona will fare.
Hyundai Kona Vs Mazda CX-3 exterior comparison: The new Kona is a good looking SUV and it has lots of styling clues from other SUVs Jeep in the front end, Corolla in profile, Subaru in the wheel arch flares. While the CX-3 is not immune to the plastic flared wheel arches at least there is less of it and the design is different to the rest of the class. As a result the CX-3 looks more upmarket from mid-range onwards. It is unfortunate that the base model CX-3 has wheels covers! but it is nearly $5000 cheaper than the cheapest Kona.
Hyundai Kona Vs Mazda CX-3 interior comparison: The CX-3 has the nicest interior design and materials in the small SUV class. The CX-3 is modern and feels good especially in the higher end model grades exceeding it’s price range however there is one flaw and that relates to the rear entry and space which is best described as small. The Kona has the critical flaw of looking and feeling a little cheap which extends to the flat seats but if you can ignore that it’s a descent sized small SUV. We wonder how they could mess up this aspect considering the great job that did on the exterior.
Hyundai Kona Vs Mazda CX-3 engines and and technology comparison: Both have all the latest safety tech as standard or optional dependent on the model grade which is currently acceptable but the CX-3 has more including auto brakes as standard. The CX-3 arguably the best non turbo petrol engine in the class and a turbo diesel which only the ASX can match in the small SUV class and you can get one with an AWD system. In comparison the Kona has a regular turbo in the base models and a turbo petrol in the mid and higher end models. The more powerful turbo petrol has the potential of being a better than average drive. In other aspects the Kona has more advanced stereo system with direct Android and Apple connectivity the CX-3 does not. Both stereo systems honestly sound similar and cannot be upgraded which is disappointing especially the Kona which looks cheap.
Hyundai Kona Vs Mazda CX-3 drive comparison: N/A
The winner of the Hyundai Kona Vs Mazda CX-3 comparison is the CX-3. The CX-3 wins because of price, interior and exterior looks. Sure it’s missing some features in the stereo department but standard auto brakes is a standout feature. The Kona is let down by the interior quality and especially evident on the entry level model. However the top range turbo engine is a spec winner due to having more power and to many buyers that is the most important feature. However is is expensive but doesn’t feel it.
