This is the Mitsubishi ASX Vs Honda HR-V comparison for 2020. While the ASX has been updated for 2020 the HR-V has remained unchanged since 2015 and it figures after all, the HR-V is still a good seller worldwide and clearly Honda has no intention of wasting money on an update despite the competition.
Mitsubishi ASX Vs Honda HR-V exterior comparison: We like the look of the updated ASX which brings it up to date for 2020 onwards. The HR-V is a decent looker despite being a 5 year old design but it is showing it’s age. The HR-V is based on the outgoing Honda Jazz but you can’t tell from the design which adds to it’s marketing appeal.
Mitsubishi ASX Vs Honda HR-V interior comparison: The interior of both cars have not been updated which means they do look old especially the ASX however the retro design elements in the HR-V seems to add character by being deliberate retro. The quality of materials in both are pretty much the same but there are more short cuts in the HRV than the ASX. The HRV’s seats are more flexible hence the better interior. In terms of stereo systems the ASX sounds better than the HR-V regardless of model grade.
Mitsubishi ASX Vs Honda HR-V engine and technology comparison: Both have non-turbo engines and CVTs so very commuter and urban friendly. Engine power is very ordinary in both so not particularly fast but adequate if only one or two people on board. Fuel economy is not special either but considering they are conventional engines with CVTs. The top end ASX with the Harmon Kadon speakers and full safety system makes it a spec bargain compared to the under equipped HR-V. There is the cliche Honda sports handling but to be honest neither are curve huggers aka understeering ‘safe’ handlers.
Mitsubishi ASX Vs Honda HR-V street cred comparison: Honda still has some street cred and certainly better than what Mitsubishi can present due to corporate ideas and value branding. Arguably price is what selling the ASX and not the HR-V.
The conclusion and winner of the Mitsubishi ASX Vs Honda HR-V comparison is the ASX. The ASX wins for the the price for spec and safety and space compared to the ASX. That’s taking into account the relatively ancient driveline and platform. The ASX is acceptable in 2020 and based on sale numbers many agree at least in Australia. The Honda HR-V has a more modern looking interior but that’s all it has. We don’t think the HR-V is good enough in 2020 for brand kudos and pricing that’s for sure but buyers in other parts of the world don’t disagree.
