Here is the new 2015 Nissan Qashqai vs Nissan X-Trail comparison. Since both are completely new models for this year and released almost at the same time we decided to do a comparison on the two siblings! Note that both Nissans look very much alike – similar to the Mazda CX-7 and the CX-9 a few years back.
Nissan Qashqai vs Nissan X-Trail exterior: They look virtually identical in term of shape and design, if seen in isolation and without badges you should be hard pressed to tell the difference. Only side by side can you tell which is the smaller car. We like the updated styling direction because it seems to appeal to everyone. We think the Qashqai has a very slight edge in terms of looks.
Nissan Qashqai vs Nissan X-Trail interior: Both interiors are very similar and differ from compeitiors by being completely conventional in terms of looks. The quality of parts are very good, the feel is good everything is good and could not find any ‘cheaper’ parts like in Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Mazda etc.. Both Nissan’s are up there with the best in the class and overall very nice. The interiors of both would work very well in a family of 4, any more and a larger car like the Pathfinder for example is the better choice. (Sure the X-Trail has the optional 7 seats but torture is not legal in most countries.) We miss the X-Trail’s former more rugged interior especially in the boot area. Overall both are very good places to be in.
Nissan Qashqai vs Nissan X-Trail engine and technology: The new Qashqai has many of the latest safety and engine tech including a turbo diesel. Both are essentially carry overs and have been updated. Although the 2 litre petrol is not exactly a power house it is adequate the Diesel could be a better choice is the price difference wasn’t go great. It is currently missing n AWD model in the country but clearly it is not a big seller. The X-Trail is good too with some models packed with the latest tech but the engines are a let down as it is currently missing a diesel option and surprisingly under spec compared to the Qashqai especially in the engine department. The X-Trail’s 2.5 is underpowered compared to other 2.5 litre engines as well and it strangely also has a smaller fuel tank!
Nissan Qashqai vs Nissan X-Trail drive: N/A yet.
To conclude so far: Both Nissan Qashqai and X-Trail are very well presented cars! We can only keep coming up with the terms like ‘nice’ and ‘good’ describe them because that’s what they truly are. They don’t try to follow European design influences and stick with a further refinement of typical Japanese design which really works well. The Qashqai is highly likely the best in its smaller SUV class compared the ASX, Ecosport, ix35, Sportage and Trax in terms of presentation and we definitely think people will go for that. The X-Trail is near the top in comparison to the CRV, CX-5. Only price and marketing will decide the overall winner in other comparisons and both are probably the equal best in the class at the moment. However in terms of this comparison we prefer the Qashqai – for now.
