Welcome to the GWM Haval Cannon Ute Vs SsangYong Musso comparison for 2024. The forgotten brand and model is the SsangYong Musso, a Korean brand that’s been around since the 1990’s in the Australian ute sales chats. Being a commercial vehicle there has only been one update in the last 30 years. Its a relative old model dating back to 2018 – other manufacturers have released all new models in the last 2 years. In comparison the Cannon Ute was released a couple years ago as a all new model. So how do they compare ?

GWM Haval Cannon Ute Vs SsangYong Musso exterior comparison: We like the design of the updated Musso – for some odd reason. Actually we know why – it stays true to the original Ssangyong design school of being deliberately different to other brands hence revealing genuine South Korean design ideas. Sure it may have been through many many design groups but it is clear that these don’t sell in comparable large numbers world wide so why try to design it for the world? Quite different from other Sth Korean brands targeting foreign buyers. In comparison the Cannon Ute is a very generic design trying to appeal to as many as possible.

GWM Haval Cannon Ute Vs SsangYong Musso interior comparison: We prefer the interior of the Musso for the simple reason that it has the ambience of a lounge room with a console that reminds us of the days of large component hi fi system. The design may be new but deliberately commercial – and honestly the Musso has a better stance than the Cannon Ute which has a generic cut and paste design.

GWM Haval Cannon Ute Vs SsangYong Musso engine and technology comparison: Both have lots of safety tech dependent on model grade but the diesel engine in both are a little underpowered compared to the competition. However in this comparison the Musso has a little more than the Cannon Ute.

The winner of the GWM Haval Cannon Ute Vs SsangYong Musso comparison is neither. Firstly both are 2 of the cheapest 4×4 utes for sale in Australia at the moment and we still couldn’t decide which one we would buy and park in the driveway. In some ways a generic Cannon Ute design would be OK but then something a little different with dare we say character. We think that the original Musso was so oddly designed, had memorable looks and featured a genuine Mercedes inline 6 cylinder engine made a lasting impression.  Although the original Musso’s truly oddball lines haven’t been completely carried over its still has some linage likewise the diesel engine.
