The new Nissan Patrol is essentially Nissan’s luxury brand’s Infiniti QX56 in more conservative exterior package. The all new Nissan Patrol is due to be released in late 2012.

It has been a long time between Patrol updates and based on what we’ve seen worth the wait. The new Nissan Patrol has forgone its 1990’s look and headed straight to the Euro-esque exterior and interior. Gone is the rugged commercial style theme and in with luxury car design.

The best thing about the prior generation GU Nissan Patrol was that it was relatively cheap. Initially it was a competitor to the full sized LandCruiser but its pricing was in the same range as a Prado. It was a big and tough 4WD. It’s only weakness was the much complained 3Lt turbo diesel which has apparently been fixed and dated packaging.

However you can expect that forth coming Patrol clearly positioned against the 200 series LandCruiser (once again). Since we’ve already sat in, poked and tried all its various features we can say that the new Patrol is better than Prado in every way at least technically. Against the 200 series LandCruiser the new Patrol leaves a better impression of interior quality and design. We will definitely post a drive report when we get the chance to drive one.

So far not many details available for this market except some pictures and that the new top range engine is a 5.6 Litre V8 engine producing around the 300Kw and 550Nm of torque. It is unlikely that there will be other engine available for its introduction. However if you view the specification sheet of the more upmarket Infiniti QX56 which the Patrol shares the majority of its parts you will be impressed.

Anyway needless to say it stuffs up or rather delays our replacement vehicle decision for the time being.

150 series LandCruiser Prado

Nissan Patrol (YP62)

Engines

1GR-FE –
