They share pricing and size and marketing similarities as a result – we know there will be some cross shopping. So how to they compare?

Mitsubishi Outback Vs Hyundai Tucson exterior comparison: Contrasting exterior lines in order to give each their clear brand identity. The Outlander front end in particular reflects the design language as seen in the rest of the model range and looks well thought out and good. Mitsubishi are essentially the masters of updating old designs to look up to date e.g. the ASX. In comparison Hyundai reflects what BMW, Honda and Lexus where up to in terms of design until they realised that it had limited evolution potential and reverted back to softer and relatively conservative designs. Hyundai have clearly taken that inspiration but resorted to clumsy and traditionally awkward lines used by their local design team who clearly didn’t pass design school. Rather it is left to the marketing department to pick up the pieces and call it futuristic rather than the truth – that friends of the family or the head the design department should be replaced with more qualified designers ASAP. That said due to the history of Hyundai design littered with poor choices, perhaps awkwardness is their brand identity?

Mitsubishi Outback Vs Hyundai Tucson interior comparison: Sure the Outlander interior is conservative but aren’t all Mitsubishi’s from decades ago? Regardless it looks modern and comfortable although like always, quality needs some attention. In comparison the interior of the Tucson is plain odd. That said Hyundai should be applauded with a design that differs from the rest, however it still looks like a bits and pieces approach and ultimately not as ‘expensive’ as it’s price suggests. It shows that the design department at Hyundai ether has too much power or management is not on the job.

Mitsubishi Outback Vs Hyundai Tucson engines and technology: Yes the Outlander uses Nissan X-Trail engines and transmissions and other Renault parts and they are updates to the prior models rather than brand new designs. They are decent enough but clearly not up the leading models such as the RAV4, Mazda and Honda. In comparison the Hyundai has carry over tech from the old model with higher prices, so the same thing just different body. You wouldn’t buy either for their class reading engine or tech.

In conclusion and winner to the Mitsubishi Outback Vs Hyundai Tucson comparison is the Outlander. The Outlander is better value for money and still looks more expensive than the Tucson. Cheap paint work on the Hyundai is something that needs to be fixed likewise the rear end design. It’s looks different for the sake of looking different which is ultimately admirable but …

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander

Hyundai Tucson

Engines

IL Petrol (91 Octane)
DOHC Engine EFI
2.4 Litre (2488cc)
Claimed 135Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 245Nm @ 3600RPM

4 Cylinder Petrol
2 Litre (1999cc)
DOHC EFI VVT
Claimed 115Kw @ 6200RPM
Claimed 192Nm @ 4000RPM

4 Cylinder Turbo Petrol
1.6 Litre (1598cc)
DOHC EFI VVT
Claimed 132Kw @ 5500RPM
Claimed 265Nm @ 1500RPM

Weight

Kerb weight FROM 1725Kg
Towing capacity up to 1600kg

Kerb weight FROM 1556Kg
Towing capacity up to 1600Kg

Fuel capacity &
