Both model share pricing and admittedly the ‘new’ medium size class. We like each model for different reasons so how do they directly compare?

Mitsubishi Outback Vs Kia Sportage exterior comparison: We like to exterior designs expect for the rear treatment on both models. In the case of the outlander the rear end looks anonymous and cheap. The Sportage rear end looks good but also on the cheap side. It the Outlander’s (aka X-Trail’s) conservative boxy looks compared to the curvy and mostly stylish lines on the Sportage in the end and we prefer the Sportage design.

Mitsubishi Outback Vs Kia Sportage interior comparison: Both interiors are nice places to be in but it depends on what sort of style you are after. The Outlander is nice but mostly on trend design in comparison to the visually European inspired Sportage. The interior on the upper model grade Sportage’s are very good and approach entry level luxury models it’s just missing the higher quality materials and tighter design tolerances.

Mitsubishi Outback Vs Kia Sportage engines and technology: Both models use carry over engine sand tech so as these particular models go are exterior updates. That said all the engines and tech are quite up to date in terms of diesel or petrol but none have hybrid or electric options. We expect that these are the last of the conventionally powered SUVs they will be making hence half hearted design features.

In conclusion and winner to the Mitsubishi Outback Vs Kia Sportage comparison is the Sportage. While the Sportage is quite ordinary under the skin it has the nicer design especially in the more expensive model grades. Unfortunately the engines short fall will make these harder to sell as petrol, diesel and adblue prices skyrocket due to the war.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander

Kia Sportage

Engines

IL Petrol (91 Octane)
DOHC Engine EFI
2.4 Litre (2488cc)
Claimed 135Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 245Nm @ 3600RPM

4 Cylinder Petrol
2 Litre (1999cc)
DOHC EFI VVT
Claimed 115Kw @ 6200RPM
Claimed 192Nm @ 4000RPM

4 Cylinder Turbo Petrol
1.6 Litre (1598cc)
DOHC EFI VVT
Claimed 132Kw @ 5500RPM
Claimed 265Nm @ 1500RPM

4 Cylinder Diesel
2.0 Litre (1995cc)
DI CR Turbo DOHC EFI
Claimed 137Kw @ 4000RPM
Claimed 416Nm @ 2000RPM

Weight

Kerb weight FROM 1725Kg
Towing capacity up to 1600kg

Kerb weight FROM 1500Kg
Towing capacity up to 1600Kg

Fuel capacity &
