An entirely appropriate comparison as the ASX is the oldest smallish SUV 0at over 10 years old against the newest SUV just fresh from the 0000factory. The most interesting question is why does the ASX still sell well for such an aged model, out lasting 3 generations of Qashqai’s. So how does the latest Qashqai compare to the ancient ASX?

Nissan Qashqai Vs Mitsubishi ASX exterior comparison: The Qashqai is entirely contemporary in appearance. It literally has all the current design touches of any other brand you can think off at the moment. Overly large and ‘aggressive’ front end, ‘floating’ rear pillar, irregular front lights, large side door dent and plastic arches, ordinary rear lights and anonymous rear end design. It is nice overall but not quite a nice as the superseded model when released. In comparison the Mitsubishi ASX is certainly more unique and does it’s own Mitsubishi inspired design language. This 3rd or fourth facelift and a great effort that hides its age well on the outside. We think the Qashqai look nicer but being a mostly generic design it should be.

Nissan Qashqai Vs Mitsubishi ASX interior comparison: Like the outside the interior of the Qashqai is contemporary and generic. The design and it’s variations can be seen an any number of other SUVs released in the last 5 years. Overall it looks and feels good but as well said ‘generic’. In comparison the ASX is very dated but at least it is cheaper despite the price rises. We call it character by 2023 standards…

Nissan Qashqai Vs Mitsubishi ASX engine and technology comparison: The Qashai has the current industry standard small capacity turbo engine which produces decent power but hampered by the extra weight and CVT. All other tech up to date including safety and multiple display screens. All this dependent on model grade and subject to change. The ASX has the old tech non turbo offset by large engine capacities It is not fuel efficient or particularly fast or refined. The bonus feature is a nicer sounding stereo system on top range models.

The conclusion and winner of the Nissan Qashqai Vs Mitsubishi ASX comparison is the ASX. For the price in 2023 the ASX is still the cheaper option in the class. Qashqai pricing starts where the ASX ends is the main problems. Yes the Qashqai is bigger but I can think of better things to spend price difference money on. So in our opinion the big question is would you consider a top range ASX or a base model Qashqai?

Nissan Qashqai

Mitsubishi ASX

Engines

4 Cylinder Petrol (95 Octane)
DOHC EFI VVT Turbo
1.3 Litre (1332cc)
Claimed 110Kw @ 5500RPM
Claimed 250Nm @ 1600RPM

4 Cylinder petrol (91 Octane)
2.0 Litre (1998cc)
DOHC VVT EFI
Claimed 110Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 197Nm @ 4200RPM

4 Cylinder petrol (91 Octane)
2.4 Litre (2360cc)
DOHC VVT EFI
Claimed 123Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 222Nm @ 4100RPM

Weight

Kerb weight FROM 1452 Kg
Towing capacity up to 1500kg

Kerb weight 1390 Kg
Towing capacity up to 1400kg

Fuel capacity &
