The Hyundai Tucson in its current model is an interesting mix that has not agreed with us and definitely less so than it’s underbody twin the Kia Sportage. In comparison we so far like the X-Trail, so how do they compare?

Nissan X-Trail Vs Hyundai Tucson exterior comparison: The Tucson is an odd looking SUV, it appeals to some and not others. In comparison the X-Trail is a nice looking SUV on the road rather than in pictures. It makes the Tucson design look like a rough draft rather than a fully thought out design. Design is a personal thing but it is tough to genuinely like this Tucson design.

Nissan X-Trail Vs Hyundai Tucson interior comparison: The Tucson interior is decent place to be in but it’s not the nicest or cohesive – we prefer the Kia version. That said and in comparison the X-Tail has a conservative layout but it is nicer design and nicer to be in regardless of model grade.

Nissan X-Trail Vs Hyundai Tucson engines and safety comparison: No question the X-Trail has the better set of engines, safety and tech features (dependent on model grade) including a Hybrid engine but not PHEV. In comparison the Tucson currently only has older tech engines but at least some decent safety systems dependent on model grade. The Tucson’s auto transmission is a DSG which has quite a few problems which doesn’t help. We think the Tucson is overpriced at the time of this post.

The conclusion and winner of the Nissan X-Trail Vs Hyundai Tucson comparison is the X-Trail. The Tucson would have had a chance if it had more efficient engines or lower pricing that covered for it’s odd looks. With out a Hybrid engine, the key selling feature in this class which it currently does not have, despite the claim of being the future, shows the brand is a little out of touch or rather, living in the past especially for a relatively new model. That said we are guessing that the Hybrid engine will be in released soon or in the next model cycle.

Nissan X-Trail

Hyundai Tucson

Engines

4 Cylinder Petrol (95 Octane)
DOHC EFI
2.5 Litre (2488cc)
Claimed 135Kw @ 6000RPM
Claimed 244Nm @ 3600RPM

4 Cylinder Petrol
2 Litre (1999cc)
DOHC EFI VVT
Claimed 115Kw @ 6200RPM
Claimed 192Nm @ 4000RPM

3 Cylinder Petrol Hybrid (95 Octane)
DOHC EFI Turbo
Litre (1497cc)
Electric motor 150Kw
Electric motor 330 Nm
Combined 157 Kw
Claimed 106Kw @ 4400RPM
Claimed 250Nm @ 2400RPM

4 Cylinder Turbo Petrol
1.6 Litre (1598cc)
DOHC EFI VVT
Claimed 132Kw @ 5500RPM
Claimed 265Nm @ 4500RPM

4 Cylinder Turbo Diesel
2 Litre (1998cc)
DOHC EFI DI CR
Claimed 137Kw @ 4000RPM
Claimed 416Nm @ 2000RPM

Weight

Kerb weight FROM 1536Kg
Towing capacity up to 1500Kg

Kerb weight FROM 1556Kg
Towing capacity up to 1600Kg

Fuel capacity &
