We decided to checkout the newest (CX-3) and one of the oldest (ASX) small SUVs currently available. The ASX in its current model has been around since 2010 which ancient in small SUV terms. We have liked the model at various times over the years but it’s package was never quite up there with it’s arch competitor the Qashqai. The all new for 2015 CX-3 looks good in real life and specification, further shaping up to be one of our favourite small SUV even before we drive it!

Mazda CX-3 Vs Mitsubishi ASX exterior: Easy decision for this part of the comparison. The ASX was never is not an ugly car but its not exactly good looking either and it is clearly an older design. The Peugeot version of the ASX can still hold with the latest model but not the original ASX. The CX-3 on the other hand looks good on the outside and is our pick.

Mazda CX-3 Vs Mitsubishi ASX interior: It’s a big difference in the interior. The ASX is clearly older design and rather conservative but that also means everything works as it should without much learning. It uses older styled materials of reasonable quality and does not feel particularly stylish or vaguely upmarket. Hopefully the new model will rectify the less than average design for 2015. The CX-3 shows how how modern interiors are designed with better looking materials and shapes. Easy win to the Mazda CX-3 in the interior presentation.

Mazda CX-3 Vs Mitsubishi ASX engine and technology: The Maxda CX-5 has arguably the newest and arguably best engine/transmission and tech package in the small SUV class. The ASX had carry over engine when released in 2010 and still has the same ones – it’s not a good start and add in a CVT and its not an interesting drive – one for commuters.

The conclusion is pretty easy, based on showroom and specification impressions we would actually buy the Mazda CX-3. The Mitsubishi ASX holds up well for an older model and since there are currently special pricing deals on the ASX can make it appealing for a noticeable price saving. Everything is forgiven essentially because it is an old model. Being a new model the CX-3 smaller but is impressively priced from the base range through to top range models so check it out before signing up.

// google_ad_client = "ca-pub-2027171236681273";
