Mazda CX-5

Welcome to the new 2013 Toyota RAV4 vs Mazda Cx-5 comparison. The CX-5 has been around for nearly 12 months at the time this was written while the RAV4 is a brand new release. Having checked out both cars recently we like both.

Toyota RAV4 Vs Mazda CX-5 exterior: We like both designs, each though has its less than complementary design touches in our view. The RAV4 looks like a Corolla or Arius which looks like a Hyundai i30 and the CX-5 likewise looks like the ix35. Notice the trend here? Thankfully for the Japanese – Hyundai interiors while nice are quite cheap places to be compared to the latest two.

Toyota RAV4 Vs Mazda CX-5 interior: We like the design of the RAV4 better than the CX-5 immediately. The new RAV4 feels like a Toyota with Lexus style design although the quality of materials are good not quite Lexus which is expected. The CX-5 has a quality interior but initially looks awkard. The quality of materials used in the CX-5 are very good and probably one of the best in the class, even better than the BMW X1 for example.

Toyota RAV4 Vs Mazda CX-5 engine and technology: Lots of changes to the RAV4 mechanical package but nothing leading edge like the CX-5. As always Toyota errs on the reliability side of things before releasing new technology. This includes its minimal tow rating for the diesel – admittedly capable for more weight but lets face it 99% of the time these things are towing above their weight often unbraked which is where the problems lies. We like tech and reliability which Mazda hasn’t quite achieved due to its disappointing sales in many countries.

Toyota RAV4 Vs Honda CRV on road: N/A

In the end the breath of RAV4 range will mean there is a model for everyone and it does look and feel very good likewise the CX-5 range, especially with the new 2.5 litre petrol on sale very shortly. Which one you choose will depend on which sales person is the nicest and there aren’t very many.
