2017 Honda CR-V

This is a 2017 Honda CR-V Vs 2018 Honda CR-V comparison. The all new CR-V has been released and we where one of the first check it out since one of us has the old one. As with every new model release we always compare the new to the  superseded or run-out model out of interest and to see if we would buy the old one if the price was right. Should you buy a run out Honda CR-V is the question and criteria for this comparison in this comparison.

2017 Honda CR-V Vs 2018 Honda CRV exterior: The new 2018 CR-V has grown in terms of size but not by as much as you’s expect due to the clever styling. It still looks like a traditional CR-V which is good since it was always a nice conservative shape. The new CR-V has a more aggressive front end and modern curves that appear almost French in style. Overall for a box it’s good and styling differentiates it from it’s key Japanese competitors. We are surprised that the CR-V didn’t get the edgy design from the donor Civic. The older CR-V just looks older which is expected and as a result would choose the new model.

2017 Honda CR-V Vs 2018 Honda CRV interior: The top range CRV seats look good, the dashboard looks great, fully digital and multi functional as standard. However overall the quality is not premium just better than the last model. Little things like sliver accent plastics rather than real cool to touch metal is disappointing. However the design feels more spacious than the old one and rear seat passengers are looked after. The 90 degree rear door opening is still amazing and makes entering and exiting the CRV the easiest. The new CRV is clearly designed for families was the unscripted first impression. There is tons of space front and back and even a 7 seat model. The interior is just as flexible as the older one although missing the almost van like space of the original. The older 2017 model still looks and feels good for its age but clearly not as good as the new one.

2017 Honda CR-V Vs 2018 Honda CRV engine and technology: Like most manufacturers Honda has cut down on engine variants and the 1.5 litre base with a turbo charger.  Although only one engine at the moment, we expect the new CR-V to get a high powered version due to the pricing structure that leaves a large gap at the top of the range compared to other manufacturers. That said the current engine produces just as much power as the older model but uses less fuel. Combined with a CVT this is probably the best tech for minimising fuel use however the drive experience will be different. All the required safety systems are there however the best stuff like auto brakes and lane and camera assistance and more are only standard on the top range model which is disappointing.

2017 Honda CR-V Vs 2018 Honda CRV drive report : The superseded CR-V was a decent drive, there is nothing to write about, everything is as expected. The interior noise could have been quieter is about the most you could really complain about.

The conclusion to the 2017 Honda CR-V Vs 2018 Honda CR-V comparison is clear for anyone deciding between the two models, we’d rather by the new 2018 Honda CR-V at a smallish price premium.  The new CR-V is a complete overhaul of the old one. Higher quality and better looking parts, a cool digital dashboard, full infotainment connectivity with Apple and Android connectivity. The only flaw to the initial release package are missing safety systems, like auto braking that it’s competitors get as standard on all model grades.
