This is our old Toyota CH-R Vs 2025 Toyota CH-R comparison for 2024. We’ve always like the CH-R for it’s design inside and out and for a Toyota. It was a surprise strong seller in all countries and worth a model upgrade. So how does the original CH-R compare to the new CH-R and is it worth buying?
Toyota CH-R Vs 2025 Toyota CH-R exterior comparison: The key feature of the CH-R is the sporty compact SUV styling and this has been modernised yet retains the original silhouette. We think it looks just as good as the original when first released but with a more contemporary look. In comparison the old CH-R still looks good but clearly the old model.
Toyota CH-R Vs 2025 Toyota CH-R interior comparison: The original model has a decent interior although on the smaller side with upmarket aspirations complete with Euro inspired curves and materials. The new model follows the trend with multiple screens and arguably improved materials and instrument stack. It’s a more upmarket appearance or design with separate areas for the instruments and the stereo/computer systems which is technically an older style layout but at least looks nicer than the latest strip of the same plastic screens used on so many other models. In comparison the old model CH-R looks a little more 2000’s youthful ‘Star Trek Next Generation’ than the youth of 2024 ‘Star Trek Discovery’ if you have watched both TV shows.
Toyota CH-R Vs 2025 Toyota CH-R engines and tech comparison: Neither CH-R could be called fast but the 2.0 Hybrid version is the one to buy if you want extra go and fuel efficiency. Neither has out of the ordinary tech features and use carry over engines and drive trains from the Corolla Cross.
The conclusion and winner of the Toyota CH-R Vs 2025 Toyota CH-R is a draw. The CH-R was always one of the moreĀ expensive small SUVs on sale which sold on its looks rather any particular feature like space for example. The updated engines in the new CH-R are a good addition too. However the biggest problem with the new CH-R is the additional of subscription services. Yes you have to continually have to pay for features. The free subscription features expires after 12 months and it also uses data from your phone plan rather than it’s own network! ‘Features’ like music streaming, Apple car play and Android Auto also require a Toyota Connected subscription! We think this is a rip off and the key reason why it can’t win a comparison over the older model. The wording of the Subscription offer is also a little dodgy and we are concerned about the involuntary tracking ability used by Toyota.
