Jeep Renegade

Welcome to the Fiat 500X Vs Jeep Renegade comparison. Both are based on the same platform although you can’t tell, which is the way it should be with shared platforms done right. VW specifically should take note although the masses don’t seem to care! We do as we like individuality most of the time.

Both sell on their perceived image and styling in the first instance and of course being SUVs. These are relatively small sellers in the increasingly crowded small SUV class for a number of reasons, mainly for reliability and price which PR have great difficulty covering up. We like both SUVs for being a little different from the crowd as they offer ‘daring’ interior and exterior designs.

Fiat 500X Vs Jeep Renegade exterior comparison: Both are not ultra small SUVs in real life more or less equalling the Honda HR-V trade on their brand’s heritage foremost rather than anything else. Although they shared the same platform the exterior design differs dramatically. The Jeep appears bigger due to the square like proportions while the Fiat looks smaller. We like the retro 500 hatch inspired design in the 500X and also the retro touches on the Jeep but in the end we like both for different reasons and so will you.

Fiat 500X Vs Jeep Renegade interior comparison: These interiors are good quality with mostly good quality materials and design. They are not luxury but what you’d expect in a new SUV in 2016. The Fiat 500X is retro inspired with colour coded plastics which suits the style and the screens and dials controls are all very good but expected for the price. The 500X is also a bright place to be with plenty of light that highlight that it doesn’t feel cheap especially the at the instrument level. The Jeep Renegade has a typical Jeep interior so it’s now modern and good quality. The branding in the interior though is annoying to look at and detracts from the quality parts of the interior. It is however a darker place due to small windows and box like angles. In the end the Jeep Renegade interior feels more ordinary that the Fiat 500X.

Fiat 500X Vs Jeep Renegade engines and technology comparison: The Renegade wins this part due to the availability of a ‘Trail rated’ version which means it has a reasonable 4WD system. Furthermore there is a choice of engines in the Renegade but really only the turbo petrol version is worth the effort. Dependent on the model range safety and entertainment systems are equal. Although the Renegade instrument panel is shared with other Jeeps the quality of the plastics has been cheapened or downgraded which is unfortunate.

Fiat 500X Vs Jeep Renegade drive comparison: N/A

In the end only the top range Jeep Renegade in turbo petrol form is worth the consideration versus any of the Fiat 500X variants! Since there’s only one model worth the effort the Fiat 500X is probably the better buy regardless of model grade (based on technical and show room comparison.) However we’d pick neither due to their high pricing for the Renegade, lack of anything special about the Fiat 500X and perceived or real reliability issues on both SUVs, after all they are made in the same factory and share parts and design. Pushed to make a decision we’d buy the Fiat 500X as you get a better and more powerful engine than the equilivent Renegade.
