This is our Honda HR-V Vs Volkswagen T- Cross comparison for 2022. The HR-V has been an eye opener since release in terms of pricing and not so much design, which is an eye closer. The only other design equally non-descript is the Volkswagen T-Cross. So how do they compare?
Honda HR-V Vs VW T- Cross exterior comparison: Both are conservative designs but the T-Cross has more colour options which makes a big difference. We wouldn’t buy either for looks but many won’t care as they are largely inoffensive designs. As another point of comparison the Hyundai Venue which is in the same size class, is more interesting to look at then either of these two. Note that they aren’t as small as they used and there’s plenty of space for 4 people and some luggage.
Honda HR-V Vs VW T- Cross interior comparison: The interior of both models are equally conservative however the HR-V feels better to be in although not for the price. The T-Cross has some fancy screens when optioned but it can’t hide the rather cheap almost commercial grade interior plastics. We where surprised at how ‘inexpensive’ the interior ambience in the T-Cross was as Taxi pack description came to mind. As a other point of comparison even the older Mazda CX-3 interior looks and feels premium compared to these two.

Honda HR-V Vs Volkswagen T- Cross engines and tech comparison: The HR-V has the leg up on the T-Cross thanks to the option of a Hybrid engine option but at a huge cost. The older 1 litre turbo in the T-Cross has decent specs but like the HR-V is quite lardy. The safety systems are dependent on model grade and in the case of the T-Cross quite expensive for what should be standard. You really need to ask yourself if a digital screen really worth $2000 option? Mind you it comes with the Beats brand speaker system which has plenty of volume but still lack clarity.
The conclusion and winner of the Honda HR-V Vs Volkswagen T- Cross is clearly neither. The T-Cross is priced really well if you ignore the options but only as a new car purchase. The turbo tuning rip off is still the biggest problem with VW since the same engine with the turbo turned up can be had with more power in other models. We also think that VW has mostly fixed the dodgy DSG and turbos of the past. Finally, T-Cross options are expensive – so if you can afford it go for it but there are even better models in the higher price bracket. The Honda HR-V Hybrid would be a easy winner in this comparison let down only by pricing.
