This is the Hyundai Santa Fe Vs Honda CR-V comparison for 2018. All new for 2018 the latest version of the Santa Fe is a much needed due to the 5 year old prior generation which we thought was overpriced with only one feature that attracted buyers. The new model is noticeably bigger but its that enough against it’s former competitors. So, how does the Santa Fe compare with the latest version of the Honda CR-V and one of the best smallish yet big SUVs on sale at the moment?
Hyundai Santa Fe Vs Honda CR-V exterior comparison: The CR-V is a modern looking SUV that is mostly an individual design we think is looks good bar the choice of alloy wheels. It is mostly a Honda design that doesn’t blatantly copy other designs. The 2019 Santa Fe is not a refinement of the older model but a new combination of other manufacturer designs but still looks good. However there is too many copied elements we’ve seen before that the Santa Fe loses it’s appeal. We prefer the conservative but evolutionary design and more individual CR-V design. (We have bought, seen, driven in so many SUVs)
Hyundai Santa Fe Vs Honda CR-V interior comparison: We like the interior of the CR-V it’s modern high quality materials and the most flexible in the class. The 2019 Santa Fe has been given an updated interior but not materials and like it’s exterior the inside is a mix of it’s competitors designs. We seen design elements before from Mazda, Honda, Mercedes in the layout very clearly. The most glaring downgrade though is the tablet control screen which looks a little cheap. Hyundai PR says it’s a luxury SUV but we say it’s class average and Although a brand new design it’s really not a special place to be and for the price on the disappointing side. In contrast the CR-V has a nice mix of materials and design, the configurable storage is a standout as always and little appreciated but unique 45 degree opening rear doors is a great feature . For the price a a good place to be in just as nice as the new Santa Fe.
Hyundai Santa Fe Vs Honda CR-V engine and technology comparison: The engine and tech features also follow the overall design objective of the new Santa Fe. The engines are carry over with some claimed safety upgrades and the addition of auto brakes in some models. The diesel engine option is a nice addition but a lost cause as the world demonises it’s emissions in it’s usually more expensive that unleaded petrol in Australia. The CRV as a turbo petrol and a CVT auto which some like and some don’t, we are in a the Don’t camp but appreciate it’s smoothness. Then again modern geared automatics can be just as smooth.
The conclusion and winner of the Hyundai Santa Fe Vs Honda CR-V comparison is the CR-V. Sure the Santa Fe is bigger that CR-V but the Honda has a more flexible so it boils down to price and brand. The Santa Fe costs $12,000 more in base model trim then the CR-V and the Hyundai is really not worth the extra money. That said if you have more than 2 children than the Santa Fe may be worth the purchase then again you probably won’t be able to afford the Santa Fe and if you could, would probably buy anther brand.
