Welcome to the Hyundai Tucson vs Nissan X-Trail comparison for 2021. What more can we say about the ‘all new’ Hyundai Tucson? – it’s an interesting SUV… The current Nissan X-Trail is on it’s last legs as a new model is being released around the world. That said, the current Chip shortages have restricted the numbers so the new model probably won’t be available until late next year. As a result it’s a perfect time to compare the run out ‘final’ edition of the X-Trail against the new Tucson.
Hyundai Tucson vs Nissan X-Trail exterior: The Tucson is still a odd looking design and the more we look at it the more we definitely think it is a reinterpretation of old school South Korean deign school. An attempt to stand out or lack of design finesse or the standard of designs going forward? That said without the odd front and rear end designs the side profile is not particularly outstanding. In comparison the X-Tail is a nice and ultimately conservative looking SUV arguably spoiled by the overly ‘aggressive’ from end.
Hyundai Tucson vs Nissan X-Trail interior: The Tucson interior is quite different from the outside but follows the same theme of being different. It does work but the materials and way it is put together is not appealing to us. More effort is required to make it desirable to be in. The X-Trail interior is still a nice place to be in but it is feeling dated. The 7 seat version is an interesting option.
Hyundai Tucson vs Nissan X-Trail engines and technology: The X-Trail has class average safety systems and gets better dependent on model grade where as the Tucson more systems as standard. In terms of engines, the Tucson has the advantage of a carry over diesel version and carry over hence older petrol engine. On the other hand the X-Trail engines are pretty good despite being just as old but let down by the troublesome CVT automatic transmission. That said there doesn’t seem too as many problems with the X-Trail.
Hyundai Tucson vs Nissan X-Trail drive : N/A
The conclusion to the Hyundai Tucson vs Nissan X-Trail is the neither. To be honest we wouldn’t buy a run out X-Trail due to transmission baggage (via internet chatter) and wouldn’t buy the Tucson as it’s doesn’t look or feel worth the cash. Hopefully the new X-Trail will use a better CVT – we note that all the marketing seem to avoid mentioning that it has a CVT in any sort of depth which indicates that they have fixed it or ignoring the generally poor Nissan CVT reputation.
