Welcome to the new Mazda CX-30 vs Mazda CX-5 comparison for 2020. We comparing the all new CX-30 with as many of it’s logical competitors as possible, mainly based on price rather than size. The CX-5 in its current guise has been around for a year or two and is one of the best examples of a 2020 medium-ish sized SUV. We like but not love it for reasons in past comparisons .
Mazda CX-30 vs Mazda CX-5 exterior design: Both are designed with Mazda’s latest design language and hence look good! The CX-30 is the sportier design due to being less box like shape compared to the CX-5. The CX-30 is also smaller than the CX-5 but you wouldn’t pick it unless parked together. The CX-30 is not really an SUV and more a high rise hatchback and not a wagon as the CX-5. so you don’t get the same amount of usable or flexible space.
Mazda CX-30 vs Mazda CX-5 interior: The interior of the CX-30 has the overall better design that uses the same or very similar materials as in the CX-5. That said the CX-5 in the top range model grade has one nicest interiors of the current SUVs regardless of price but CX-30 interior arguably better even if it is not as spacious as the CX-5.
Mazda CX-30 vs Mazda CX-5 engines and technology: They are from the same manufacturer and share common engines, parts and other technology. Both have state of the art safety systems, stereo systems and on demand all wheel drive systems dependent on model grade. The only difference is the CX-5 has the option of the new powerful turbo petrol and the CX-30 at the time of this review does not.
The conclusion to the new Mazda CX-30 vs Mazda CX-5 comparison is a draw. We think both will appeal to different buyer purely due to the styling choice hence this short comparison review. Some people don’t want a box or wagon like SUV look in the CX-5, admittedly it is arguably the least wagon like design on sale at the moment bar the high rise lift back models from BMW and Mercedes at the moment. Finally, while most of the range is pretty much matched for pricing the more powerful top range CX-5 is $10000 more expensive than the CX-30 with is arguably not worth the difference.
