VS | Subaru XV |
Welcome to the new 2013 Subaru Forester vs Subaru XV comparison. Both cars are very much related sharing engines, interior and exterior trim although the difference is mainly in size. So out of interest we did a comparison of both cars since many would cross shop regardless of what the Subaru PR or sales people say.
We didn’t like the prior Subaru Forester or XV even though many did. They looked cheap inside and out and relatively expensive to keep going. Their redeeming feature was that they had a decent AWD system and where reasonably priced towards the end. However these new models are on the expensive end of the ‘small’ SUV class although have some of the latest engine technology and other appointments to compensate… We now actually like both models at the time of this post!
Subaru Forester Vs Subaru XV exterior: Both share the Subaru design themes and are quite good looking but it may prove too modern for some like the original Tribeca. In hind sight the original Tribeca has stood the test time where as the toned down version we see today is a bland as you can get and too expensive! The point that you cannot mistake them for any other brand except for a Subaru proves that the latest design language does work!
Subaru Forester Vs Subaru XV interior: Both interiors are identical thus are modern, look good and work well. Over conservative in design but much better than the 1980’s inspired and low rent prior versions. Note that The 2013 RAV4 interior, CRV and CX-5 have relatively nicer interiors and quality as well.
Subaru Forester Vs Subaru XV engine and technology: The base engine is available for both models and by all accounts a good unit. All have the latest tricks to save on fuel but annoy drivers at the same time. The larger engine available in the Forester are a nice addition which we naturally prefer and hence it wins compared to the XV which you can only expect modest performance from its sole 2.0 petrol engine. It does feel Ok in normal driving though which helps it sell.
The AWD system is common to both model and in some claimed tests as superior to other small SUVs. However in the end like arbitary fuel consumption figures it is fine the controlled lab style tests but don’t fare so well in the real world. It’s is better than nothing in most commuter driving.
Subaru Forester Vs Subaru XV road drive: Both drive like a Camry or Corolla to drive with more grip which makes fast paced cornering untidy which is nice and safe but noisier.
Based on price the conclusion to the comparison of the Forester and the XV is simple – buy the Forester if you can live with the looks because its better value for money. Unless you want a smaller car the XV is the better choice. However better still check out the other model available for the same sort of price!
