Welcome to the Suzuki Jimny Vs Mazda CX-3 comparison. The Suzuki Jimmy (2016) has been around for over 16 years in it’s current form and we think old enough to be added to the retro 4WD class. The FJ Cruiser is clearly a retro from the ground up and it’s over 10 years old design and thanks to great design still looks old yet new. One of us owns a FJ Cruiser, the same person who used to drive a Jimny too back in the the day…
Suzuki Jimny Vs Toyota FJ Cruiser exterior comparison: The Jimny exterior was modern and stylish when released back in the 90’s and it has aged or rather not aged well over the years. Remaining the same for so many years you could almost call it retro! The FJ exterior is unmistakable appearing like the logical design progression from the original FJ40 model even when viewed side by side. It will be a classic in another 10 or so years when cars or SUVs like this simply can’t exist. Both are good looking in their own way but the FJ40 in better as it is design for the sake of it.
Suzuki Jimny Vs Toyota FJ Cruiser interior comparison: The Jimny interior is a typical design from the 1990’s, simple high quality and sturdy. The FJ Cruiser has an interior that befits its retro styling so its spartan to look at but has all the latest tech with deliberate choice to having levers, large dials, buttons and no carpet. The entrainment system although looking very aftermarket has all the features you need these days including bluetooth phone, music steering wheel controls and GPS. That said without the head unit it would be a more basic equipment list. The Jimny is tiny compared to the FJ. Both are not luxurious interiors but nice and basic to look at.
Suzuki Jimny Vs Toyota FJ Cruiser engines and technology comparison: The FJ has more safety tech, off road tech including the latest off road traction control systems and a powerful engine to go with it. That said it weighs almost 2 Jimny’s. The Jimny on the other hand is a basic commuter with the minimum safety and entertainment systems. It’s 4WD system is basic too relying on toughness and size to go places.
Suzuki Jimny Vs Toyota FJ Cruiser drive comparison: The FJ Cruiser ride on and off road is amazing compared to the Jimny and indeed many regular cars, reasonably quiet and absorbent. The Jimny’s ride is rough by comparison. The handing of the FJ is traditional RWD on the road so there is plenty of handling if you know how to drive, sure it may not have pinpoint handling but you can feel what the suspension and traction is doing which is excellent. The best way of comparing the two is lounge chair ride in the FJ and wooden chair for the Jimny. We prefer the FJ Cruiser.
The FJ Cusier is the better 4WD or SUV on or off road but it is at more then double the Jimny is every way including price and the best choice if you want to go off road and long distance cruising. The Jimny wins if you don’t have the funds and want to go off road and don’t need to travel very far to get there.
