We expect that the recently announced Eclipse Cross model will eventually replace the ASX although currently announced a companion model. The new Eclipse Cross is a much more striking model that the ASX much like the Pajero Sport so it is a safer bet to sell the rather conservative ASX and modern Eclipse for now. The new Toyota CH-R is a great looking SUV, it’s exterior styling is striking yet conservative enough not to offend.
Toyota CH-R Vs Mitsubishi ASX exterior comparison: We don’t dislike the ASX design because it is not particular modern or stylish. The recent refresh doesn’t help it’s basic looks which is a pity. On the up side the standard spider like alloy wheel look great and honestly adds so much to the styling and looks the approx $25000 starting price tag. The Toyota CH-R looks better in photos than in real life and it is quite different from the rest of 2017 Toyota model range. There is very little to dislike about the design, its very modern and it’s looks matches the asking price.
Toyota CH-R Vs Mitsubishi ASX interior comparison: The CH-R has the better looking, feeling, materials and quality interior. That said it is very evolutionary design that is quite different form other 2017 Toyota models. The diamond shapes that are placed throughout the interior is the main styling trick but it’s not exactly revolutionary compared to the districtly stylish CX-3. The CH-R interior is not particularly stylish, simply a nice place to be in. The ASX interior is clearly an older design made of an older selection of materials. It’s T-Style dashboard is very traditional but a few splashes of colour and materials keep it reasonable modern. Although quite old it’ still a decent place to be in no complaints due to this. Both feel essential the same size but we prefer being in the CH-R interior despite the tiny rear windows and so will most buyers.
Toyota CH-R Vs Mitsubishi ASX engines and and technology comparison: The specification part of the comparison is the most interesting part and shows why the ASX is still a strong competitor in the small SUV class. The ASX has 2 engine options and 3 transmission options and FWD or AWD. While the normal 2.0 litre engine is very average is all aspects it is the diesel engine option that is arguably the better option. It’s a 2.2 litre diesel from the Outlander so in the smaller ASX body you have a fairly quick small SUV and combined with a geared automatic highly drivable. That said it will be a unexciting drive due to the low rev nature of the diesel engine. Meanwhile the 2.o litre engine is typically Mitsubishi with mid-range power reducing towards the top end. The CH-R has the latest 1.2 petrol turbo that is decent enough with CVT that attempted to keep it in the turbo mode as often as possible to use the minimal power it has. Comparing the say the Toyota Yaris 1.5 litre engine which has has just as much power it obvious that the CH-R is underpowered. The CH-R may have all the latest technology safety systems but very often you need power to get you out of an accident situation not lane departure warnings.
Toyota CH-R Vs Mistubishi ASX drive comparison: The Mistubishi ASX drives like a high rise Lancer or a Corolla, The ride is probably a little softer but not by that much but the drive can be described as casual, not sporting just a normal passenger car that does not try to be sporty or is sporty to drive. If you like normal and safe this is the impression is gives at all times. Most of all it’s not all that noisy when just driving around but the diesel engines is noticeable when pressing on but that is quite normal for any diesel. The class leading feature of a selectable AWD system rather the dubious on demand systems on other small SUVs.
The winner of the Mitsubishi ASX Vs Toyota CH-R comparison is a draw. The ASX has almost all the features of the CH-R but the what makes the ASX the winner over the new CH-R is the diesel engine, more room for the rear passengers and easier access and price. It’s a not the most modern SUV hence and flaws entirely forgivable. You would never pay full retail pricing for the ASX. The CH-R package is appealing it’s is the most modern out of all the small SUV except the CX-3. The biggest flaws are the price and engine and CVT combination.
