This is the new Toyota Corolla Cross vs Hyundai Tucson comparison for 2023. Yet another competitor to the Corolla Cross is the Hyundai Tucson which technically in a different size class due to size. However due to pricing both models cross over potential buyer groups. Would we cross shop between the the Tucson and the Corolla Cross – yes but due to more than just price as we will explain.

Toyota Corolla Cross vs Hyundai Tucson exterior design: The most obvious thing about the Tucson is it’s exterior design, specifically it’s front and rear ends design. The side profile pretty decent and has grown on us over the last 2 years but the front and read design are still not right. Hyundai advertises it as futuristic but we describe as the state of the Hyundai department aka not good. Sure everyone has their own opinion on the design but this sort of stuff doesn’t help branding – mind you the design is looking less and less ‘futuristic’ in space of 2 years is also not a good sign. The Corolla Cross has the opposite design language by being anonymous. Basically it’s a design that any manufacturer could have made aka generic and conservative.

Toyota Corolla Cross vs Hyundai Tucson interior: The interior of both models are best described as nice places to be in. The Corolla Cross is the sam e as the regular Corolla so it has a slightly dated design but with good materials. The Tucson design is nice too but it is a bit a a mis-match and honestly that tablet instrument panel is just cheap looking. That said if you want space than the Tucson is notably more spacious but it is the bigger SUV rather than having clever design. Sure the seat material and garnish on the high end Tucson is nice but the driver sees cheap as screen and steering wheel which is not an inspiring ownership experience.

Toyota Corolla Cross vs Hyundai Tucson engines and technology: The Tucson is like a transitional model hence have not given it any new tech or engines and just repackaged the old tech in a bigger body. All engine choices are carry over and unfortunately includes the Theta 2 engines that reportedly often catch on fire. That said they do know about and you just need to service it correctly. In comparison the Corolla Cross has the more powerful 2 litre Hybrid that is decently powerfully and economical. This is essentially the key selling point for the Corolla Cross.

The conclusion and winner of the Toyota Corolla Cross vs Hyundai Tucson comparison is the draw. The Hyundai Tucson is best chosen for it’s unique and less than graceful looks however tiered safety features and old engines although decently powered but with poor fuel consumption are not selling points but the extra space and nicely designed interior appointments are. In comparison while the Corolla Cross is smaller but has better safety systems as standard and a comfy but plain exterior and interior design. The standout feature is the hybrid engine which is zippy and efficient is the highlight and intimately main reason why it arguably edges out the Tucson.
