Volvo XC40 Vs Ranger Rover Evoque Comparison

Range Rover Evoque

This is the Volvo XC40 Vs Ranger Rover Evoque comparison for 2018. The Volvo XC40 is one favourite SUVs at the moment with only one major problem effecting it’s tally of comparison wins. On the other hand we were initially impressed with the Evoque but not overly impressed due to price and spec. So a comparison between the XC40 and Evoque is required to find out if the the Evoque is still worth considering.

Volvo XC40 Vs Ranger Rover Evoque exterior comparison: The Evoque was the best looking SUV when released as it was something different and from a perceived luxury brand. It still looks good helped by a thick paint job and doesn;t really need many admins to look sporty of upmarket overall a great design but there is a problem and that is that the 4 door version looks like an afterthought. The original 3 door version is much more the way it should have been. There is a convertible version is looks like a bathtub more than it should be. In comparison the XC40 looks more more modern and equally up market – if there is such a thing and in solid colours standouts more than the Evoque. We prefer the XC40 looks but many are swayed by perceived Ranger Rover brand .

Volvo XC40 Vs Ranger Rover Evoque interior comparison: The Evoque’s interior in base trim is very good with materials and textures that where not common when released. It’s a conservative and simple interior design common with other Range Rovers. However other manufacturers have caught up and it no better than the top range Mazda CX-5 as an example which costs less than the entry level Evoque. That said the Evoque has options to improve ambience but there are quite expensive options. In comparison the XC40 has a more impressive interior with large digital displays and retro vents lifting the ambience beyond the Evoque. Top range Evoque vs XC40 is an easy win for the Volvo and more so when price is taken in account. We felt much better in the XC40 than the Evoque.

Volvo XC40 Vs Ranger Rover Evoque engine and technology comparison: The base Evoque starts at approximately $56,000 with a manual transmission! You do not get many features that are standard on the XC40. Sure there are quite a few safety packs you can add on but it’s nothing compared to the XC40 or any other SUV priced above $56,000 in fact it’s probably the unsafest SUV for sale and in line with Great Wall SUVs. The engines in the Evoque have been updated with a single turbo diesel as a base engine and a twin turbo as the option and one petrol engine with 2 states of tune aka turbo rip off trick. The engine are still from the donor Ford Focus. In other respects the stereo system in the Volvo is the most fully featured and nicer sounding with the Harmon Kardon speakers as standard for it’s introduction. The Evoque is an options SUV so simply not comparable in terms of features.

Volvo XC40 Vs Ranger Rover Evoque drive report : See our drive review in an earlier post on the Ranger Rover Evoque.

The conclusion and winner of the Volvo XC40 Vs Ranger Rover Evoque is the Volvo XC40. The Volvo is an easy winner in terms of spec and  performance no question. However it’s only a Volvo. Range Rover is a perceived prestige and luxury brand but the Evoque does not live up to the brand image although many people think so which the power of a Brand’s heritage. While the Evoque feels good to be in the Volvo feels better.
