Welcome to the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton Vs 2016 Mitsubishi Triton Dual cab comparison review. With the release of the new Mitsubishi Triton just before the end of the financial year it’s time we had a comparison between the new and old model before it finally runs out. The 2015 Triton is the oldest model in the class before the 2016 redesign. The ‘new’ Triton is not completely new having significant under body parts from the 2015 model, which is not a bad thing since it is one of the better and arguably friendly size not the bloated Amarok, Ranger, BT-40. That said the Ranger is one of our favorites due to the more completely package.
2015 Mitsubishi Triton Vs 2016 Mitsubishi Triton exterior: The 2015 Triton still looks good as its design was ahead of its time. The new Triton is not as striking to look at (ignoring the shiny grill) but it is modern and does try to fit into Mitsubishi’s latest attempt at unifying the look and design language of the entire model range. Points are always given for designing something different which past Mitsubishi’s have always done – unfortunately the latest model doesn’t. If that latest sales stats are anything to go by it is clear for the Australian market that it is price followed by cost to run, brand reputation, looks, ability to customise then everything else.
2015 Mitsubishi Triton Vs 2016 Mitsubishi Triton interior: The older commercial style interior gives way to more upmarket materials but conservative design. It’s a progressive upgrade that can be best described as an up to date and nice interior.
2015 Mitsubishi Triton Vs 2016 Mitsubishi Triton technology: The 2016 Triton currently uses a single diesel engine across the range. As far as we’re concerned this is a brilliant marketing and specification winner. You see, if this engine is good enough for the range topper its even better in the lower models. There is nothing wrong with the superseded Triton engines as they we’re up to date but they where some problems which made a new the best decision.
2015 Mitsubishi Triton Vs 2016 Mitsubishi Triton the drive: The 2015 Triton was always traditional in terms of ride and driving. It’s been a while since we drive one but from memory its fine what you’d expect in a Ute over the last 10 years. We haven’t tried the new model yet so no comment yet.
The 2016 Triton as a package is very appealing, the single powerful diesel engine for example, makes a mockery of VW’s rip off pricing at the time of purchase and running costs, it also makes the Hilux, Ranger, Navara look overpriced. If you like the price, look and package then this is the Ute to get. Getting back to the old Vs new Triton comparison yes the new one is probably the better bet but if you can get an older model be sure it’s at a genuine run out price.
