2012 Honda CR-V |
VS | 2013 Honda CR-V |
Welcome to the 2012 Honda CR-V Vs the 2013 Honda CR-V comparison. With the existing models being in run-out mode we thought it would be a good time to compare the new and old models just to see if it’s worth the wait. The 2013 models known as the RM series CRV will be available some time in November. With the introduction of the 2wd versions and the smaller 2 litre engine means a cheaper and competitive price tag.
In terms of exterior design the new CRV is noticeably different but from the older model and different enough from the masses of other SUVs. The new CRV is not pretty but it doesn’t look awkward or ‘cheap’ either – which does help. In terms of the new interior, the materials and quality look and feel slightly better than the older model – the design is progressive rather than a complete change. (Note that the photos create an enhanced impression of quality.) We are not a fans of BMW like half dashboards, as an example that are minimal to look at and feels cheap due to the large expanse of plastic. Unfortunately that seems to be the current trend… Since Honda has continued the practical and good looking design we give the CRV top marks.
In the mechanical department the new 2013 CRV will be available as 2WD or on-deamnd AWD versions with 2 petrol and diesel engine options. Only the petrol versions will be available for the first year of the model run. 2WD models get the 2.0 litre petrol and the on-demand AWD versions will come with an updated 2.4 litre petrol engine. With lower starting kerb weight the performance and fuel economy will be improved along with the ability to run 91 octane petrol cheaper than the others to run.
Until we drive the new model all we can conclude with is that the new CRV is definitely better than the old one which means it’s probably as good as the current best sellers eg. Mazda CX-5, Subaru XV.
