(Original publish 26/9/213) Here is the updated comparison between the 2013 Toyota Kluger and new 2014 Toyota Kluger. The new Toyota Kluger is not completely new since the engines and drive train are updated but not new. There is essentially nothing wrong with the carry parts since it is one of the smoothest and fuel efficient V6 and 4 cylinder engines by any manufacturer. However there is a new 6 speed gear box to boast about so there should be additional fuel savings and refinement.
2104 Toyota Kluger Vs 2013 Toyota Kluger exterior: The older Kluger looked good is a conservative way when released but we feel lost its looks when they tarted it up with too much exterior shiny bling that looked too aftermarket in a bad way. It was clearly never designed to accommodate the extra shiny stuff. The new Kluger is an evolutionary update that uses all the current Toyota design language. It not unattractive nor good looking car just a design that we guess tries to stand out.
2104 Toyota Kluger Vs 2013 Toyota Kluger interior: Another easy win to the 2014 Kluger. The new Kluger follows the current interior design language which is clearly easy to use. It also has more convenient storage and space for any regular family. The 3rd row seats look and feel big enough for regular kids too which is a bonus.
2104 Toyota Kluger Vs 2013 Toyota Kluger engine and technology: The Kluger’s engine is a reliable unit and will go for years. The sole conventional petrol V6 engine (for the time being) is reasonably fuel efficient to move such a large car and yet has enough power for almost any use. We do find the small capacity turbo 4 cylinder engine good but not responsive enough for regular driving, which is why we rate this and other non-turbos like the Mazda engines much better to drive. The new Kluger has all the modern tech features you’d expect and clearly more to come in the model cycle.
2104 Toyota Kluger Vs 2013 Toyota Kluger road test: N/A new one – We thought the old one was good.
There can’t really be a definitive conclusion to this comparison just yet since not all the retail specs and drive haven’t been done yet. However from the pictures and details that have been released the 2014 Toyota Kluger is a decent upgrade from the older model! The amount of space and price is compelling and we can see why conventional station wagons are no longer desirable – more to come.
