This is the old 2020 Kia Sorento Vs new 2021 Kia Sorento comparison for 2021. Although released last year we didn’t have chance to see it in the showroom until recently. It may seem like a clear cut win for the new Sorento but you may be surprised – so is the new Kia Sorento worth buying over the old one?
2020 Kia Sorento Vs new 2021 Kia Sorento exterior comparison: The 2020 Kia Sorento is a decent conservative looking, medium sized high rise wagon that blends in with the crowd of wagons and SUVs. In comparison the new Kia Sorento is less conservative with a more aggressive front and contrasting rear end with edges rather than curves. The new design looks more upmarket but like most new models could look like a model from any established manufacturer so if you look at it long enough it does become a conservative design by 2021 standards. We think it’s because the doors and other side panels appear to be a carry over (with some modifications). Regardless it does look better.
2020 Kia Sorento Vs new 2021 Kia Sorento interior comparison: The old Sorento’s interior looked and felt good for the time however it was quite ordinary in terms of design which was already and arguably dated. The new Sorento is a contrast, making bolder statement that is modern and upmarket, at least for the more expensive model grades. There is plenty of space in both but the new is even larger. We like the new interior design and one of the best out there is terms of looks and feel.
2020 Kia Sorento Vs new 2021 Kia Sorento engine and technology comparison: The old Sorento was a decent model for it time with the key selling point of having a diesel engine option. While the new Sorento has the same carry over engines there is updated safety systems dependent on model grade. Digital dashboards and instrument panels are the norm in new models and it is no different here but again dependent on model grade. This feature used to impress us but no longer since it can be changed as the whim of marketing or graphic designer. We kind of miss the old intricate instrument designs which easily showed the level of cost, prestige and luxury of a particular model. Unfortunately no more – and we are left with reviewing the font style and colours.
Not all is good and there is one mechanical feature that could cause problems in the short term, that is the use of the Dual Clutch Auto which has not been a reliable transmission technology since introduction. Manufacturers blame the stupidity of owners rather than actual flaws in the technology – enlisting paid internet keyword warriors to do boast how wonderful DCT is when there are more complaints.
2020 Kia Sorento Vs new 2021 Kia Sorento drive report : N/A
The conclusion and winner of the 2020 Kia Sorento Vs new 2021 Kia Sorento comparison is a draw. We think it comes down to price of the old vs the new Sorento. Is the new Kia Sorento worth the $10000 price difference? – the answer is no, too many carry over key components aka engine, mechanicals and side panels. However it’s updated sheetmetal and interior design may be impressive enough to justify the price difference – is up to you to decide. If it was $5000 cheaper would make is more compelling than as is.
