Welcome to the all new Suzuki Jimny Sierra vs Hyundai Kona comparison for 2020. The Jimmy is a highly desirable SUV in many parts of the world where as the Kona is not. We are comparing the two since the Kona is the same price or less than the Jimmy before on road costs and there are no discounts on the Jimmy due to the lack of availability. Furthermore many shoppers by mainly on looks…
Suzuki Jimny Sierra vs Hyundai Kona exterior comparison: The Kona is a modern looking small high rise hatchback Hyundai have classed as an SUV. We do think that that is pushing the original description of this class. The Jimmy is definitely an SUV and clearly a 4WD than anything else. It’s look retro inside and outside and in most colours just a bit stylish. It makes the Kona look a little plain in comparison or as we are calling derivative styling a little ‘washing machine’ like. It’s not a bad term just sounds better than the ‘white goods’ on wheels. That said these appliances are getting very high tech these days.
Suzuki Jimny Sierra vs Hyundai Kona interior comparison: The Tiny has a tiny interior that’s design to be as retro as it’s exterior. However there are enough flair o make it look and feel good to be in. The Kona interior is larger but bargain basement to be in and does not live up to Hyundai’s elevated pricing. You can see the white plastic under the ‘carpet’ is one example.
Suzuki Jimny Sierra vs Hyundai Kona engines and technology comparison: The Kona has good set of engine and suite of safety system you’d expect in and car in 2020. The only criticisms and things potential buyers should be aware of is the DSG gearbox and interior quality. The Jimmy as a adequate engine for it’s primary design brief. It’s a small and tough off roader with compromises that allow it to be driven on suburban roads. It’s features a real 4WD system with low range and electronic diff lockers aka traction control and even Auto emergency braking. However it’s small size means under average safety rating. (Note the Hyundai Kona is now available as an electric car which we haven’t seen yet.)
Suzuki Jimny Sierra vs Hyundai Kona street cred: There is little street cred in owing a Hyundai Kona unless you compare it with its donor i30 hatchback. In comparison the Suzuki Jimmy has more street cred than it’s size suggests and all the stories around it are true. It is respected on the driveway and off the road. That said the Electric version of the Kona may raise some eyebrows but to us a Prius or Tesla easily has more cred.
The winner of the Suzuki Jimny Sierra vs Hyundai Kona comparison is a draw. Both appeal to different types of people. It’s an extreme choice ultimately. If you want a pure city car or off road 4WD the Jimmy is a much better choice. If you want an urban run around and occasionally gravel driveway, the Kona a good choice however there are plenty order better choice.
