Welcome to the Hyundai iLoad Vs Ford Transit Custom comparison and showroom review for 2020. Based on our past comparisons we like the Ford Transit for a number of reasons, so as part of our commercial van comparison series put it up against the Hyundai iLoad. The iLoad has been around for about 13 years with the only update being to the front end facelift in 2018. In comparison the Transit Custom in the current model has only been in service since 2015.
Hyundai iLoad Vs Ford Transit exterior comparison: The Hyundai iLoad is an older looking van even with the front end face lift 12 months ago. In comparison the Ford Transit looks modern and sporty due to it’s sleeker lines. We like the Transit’s rear end light treatment which shows that you don’t need to do too much to ‘decorate a box’ and that you don’t need to do too much to differentiate it from competitors. The Transit Sport model in particular is arguably the best looking commercial van currently on sale.
Hyundai iLoad Vs Ford Transit interior comparison: Being the smallest Transit in the range the Transit Custom has lots of space, more than the iLoad. There is a longer wheelbase Transit Custom if you want extra space. The dimensions are deceptive as Hyundai measures bigger than the Transit yet has less space. The iLoad’s interior is car like and not particularly passenger class standard in 2020. It’s still nice place for the driver but not as nice as the Transit. The Transit has standout storage which is perfect for couriers and #vanlifers.
Hyundai iLoad Vs Ford Transit engines and technology comparison: We won’t keep repeating the same thing, the Transit has class leading tech, including safety systems and engines although they do resort to turbo tuning for the sport model. There is no excuse for Hyundai to do the same thing but only for a manual transmission vs the Automatic. If your manual transmission can’t take the same power don’t offer one it doesn’t do anything positive for your durability image. Turbo tuning should be banned. Unseen tech also makes the Transit able to have bigger box for the cargo area deserves to be noted.
The conclusion and winner of the Hyundai iLoad Vs Ford Transit Custom comparison is the Ford Transit. You get so many more useful features for the driver in the Transit that it is clear they listened to its primary buyers. In comparison the Hyundai iLoad was clearly not designed as a commercial van in the first place unless it’s designers weren’t listening or rather we know via Hyundai’s seeming design motto of doing things a cheaply as possible. Hence you get the passenger van driver’s area which is still unfortunately quite ordinary. It’s diesel engine was a standout when released but everyone else has caught up. In the end and due purely to the model’s history, the Ford Transit’s long term durability is the biggest question mark. Finally, we really don’t understand why empty vans are so heavy and cost so much to buy?
