We put this page up so that you can compare the 120 series Toyota Prado LC4 to the Toyota Kluger or Highlander in the US. If you are shopping for a large family car than can also go off road than the Kluger should definitely be on the shopping list. We have driven one for a few hundred kilometers already and can definitely recommend it if you want a family style SUV this would be a excellent choice. It is quiet on the road with great engine performance, comfortable handles well and so forth. It’s like a bigger Camry – great all rounder.
The Kluger does not have a Lexus equivalent which is strange considering that they share the same V6 petrol engine. As a stand alone model it strangely still has few direct competitors from other manufacturers in many parts of the world.
The Prado Vs Kluger comparison also reveals that it is quite a large car although have completely different design. The Kluger can be purchased a 2WD (front) or the AWD version. Furthermore in many parts of the world the Kluger is available as a 4 cylinder petrol engine. Interestingly the 4 cylinder Prado uses the same 4 cylinder engine as the Kluger in other parts of the world.
Both vehicles are very similar in size but the interior packaging in the Kluger is much more car like. Despite the actual measurements the Kluger feels smaller in comparison.
The Kluger is clearly a city based SUV rather than a true off road one. So if you want off-road capability the Prado is the pick whilst if you you spend most of your time on road than the Kluger is the pick. That said the Kluger does not handle as well a decent station wagon. However it is smooth and very quiet to drive, like Prado but without proper off-road abilities.
It’s exterior design is up to date and at the same time conservative and will appeal to most. Infinitely better than the original model. The interior likewise looks well put together and looks like it will last. It’s not high end European luxury car quality but it’s not that bad either. Of note is that all models have the full range of air bags and other safety equipment. Also the dashboard is made of hard plastic but it actually looks good!
Lots of equipment on most of the range but the top range model doesn’t have much more for the extra money. Also considering the Kluger is at least 5 years newer design than the Prado it does not show. We’d probably pick the Kluger if we didn’t go off road.
