This is the Honda HR-V Vs BMW X1 comparison for 2022. These are the cheapest SUVs from Honda and BMW for comparison and as we found worth the effort. The HR-V has growing up size and price and we have been not entirely convinced that it’s worth the price. In comparison we are indifferent about the BMW X1 which is the cheapest SUV styled car for the manufacturer. So how do they compare?
Honda HR-V Vs BMW X1 exterior comparison: Neither designs are particularly stand outs in the class and both do look last generation in terms of design to be completely honest. The driveway test reveals that the HRV is anonymous but everyone knows that you are a little mindless if you have a non-Hybrid to money to waste. In comparison the BMW X1 especially in white reveals you are buying the brand or can’t afford a non-white version. Both are a little undesirable and the BMW less so as most want content rather than just the badge.
Honda HR-V Vs BMW X1 interior comparison: The BMW X1 standard interior is nice but you need one of the interior option packs to lift the ambience. It used to be the sant out in terms of classic design for the 90’s but not 2022. The HRV interior is nice too and a more modern place to be in however it does feel less solid and light although we know that it will las a long time but that it the Japanese styling language.
Honda HR-V Vs BMW X1 engine and technology comparison: The X1 does not have many safety systems as standard unless you have a higher model grade or options installed. Furthermore the engine choices in the BMW are a bunch of turbo tuning rip offs as far as we are concerned. In comparison the HRV Hybrid is the only version worth considering but it is expensive – for a non-premium model.
Honda HR-V Vs BMW X1 Street Cred : Since BMW is a premium and arguably prestige brand that we’ve included this section in the comparison. A white BMW X1 with no options = posers and those buying the cheapest BMW SUV. There is nothing remotely special about the X1. The Honda HR-V Street Cred is none as well except by those who may still have some memory of Honda’s premium Japanese image admittedly long lost.
The conclusion and winner of the Honda HR-V Vs BMW X1 comparison is the Honda HR-V. Strange that we would buy the HR-V over the BMW X1. That said in terms of pricing the base BMW X1 still costs slightly more than the top range Hybrid HR-V but price is not the real reason. You see when it comes to premium brands we can’t call the BW X1 overpriced due to its marketing. The brand still has an elevated market position despite having less technology, less than premium longevity and so forth expected for the price and for us the lack of street cred especially when equipped with default white paint job. The Hybrid HRV has more power, quieter and refined, expected reliability and so forth and simply better value for money that the BMW X1 can’t match at its current price point.
