Pioneer AVH-X3500DAB Review Part 1

pioneer_3500_frontWelcome to the Pioneer AVH-X3500DAB review. This is merely the first part of the long term review for the stereo system – as per what we usually do with new gadgets. Although the Sony stereo system we wrote about in 2008 still works fine it is relatively ancient technology! So in an effort to get better sound and more features we updated to the latest Pioneer AVH-X3500DAB! Since the full review will take awhile to complete here is the first installment of the review.

The AVH-X3500DAB features which made us choose it was the standard DAB + radio, FM with RDS and iPod/USB and bluetooth connectivity. The only thing that we did not like about the unit was the relatively small display screen and the shiny black face.

Connecting the new Pioneer after having the Sony install was simple. The ISO adapter could still be used and it was essentially a plug a play installation with the additional microphone and DAB antenna wire the new additions. The most time consuming part was screwing the unit securely into the Prado’s bracket and wiring up the digital radio antenna and microphone.

Since this article is just the introduction we can already say that the unit sounds great. There are tons of sound and enhancement settings along with display customisation options. The CPU in the unit is very smart and fast so the output sounded loud and very detailed despite being heavily processed for MP3 music in particular. However we need more time with the AVH3500DAB for a proper assessment.

In terms of operation the AVH-X3500DAB is easy enough to use and setup, the only problem we encountered was the relatively small icons on the screen for the more special functions. So far so good till next week when we go into more detail about the various functions…
