Sure the early models had issues but so do all manufacturers however they persisted and the current version is very good. The (2013 update) Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is possibly our favorite medium sized SUV has just been updated with a revised interior and exterior styling and even more features for your purchasing dollar.
First off we start with the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s main problem, which is patchy reliability, build quality and service support. We genuinely like the Jeep as our drive confirms and that it will convince many to buy although, judging by owner reviews and even long term magazine reviews its a 50/50 change of getting a good one as a bad one. The Ford Territory likewise had quality and reliability issue when first released but over the years they have been addressed and the current and possibly last of the series is one of the most reliable models you can buy.

The Ford Territory is also very made and we couldn’t spot any flaws on the outside. We’d pick the diesel for the fuel saving despite higher purchase price since its quite a powerhouse – however for a diesel it is uneconomical and there is relatively little information about how robust its mechanicals will be for the long term. The Ford Territory has the proven diesel 4 and straight 6 cylinder that’s well known. The Jeeps interior technology surpasses the Ford and definitely more impressive to look at so the Jeep wins!
The conclusion to this comparison is clear – it an easy win to the updated Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee’s pricing, looks inside and out is better than the Ford. However the Ford is a evolutionary car and it is arguably the more reliable car to buy and probably the best in the price range. We have driven both and to be completely honest we prefer the Ford’s more secure drive but appreciate the Jeep’s power in a straight line but only as a V8 or diesel.
