Welcome to the 2013 Jeep Patriot Vs 2013 Hyundai ix35 comparison. Both Patriot and ix35 have been around for a few years now so we decided to see how well they have aged. If you’ve read the other Jeep Patriot reviews and comparisons on the site you’ll won’t find it surprising that we respect the model purely due to price for features. The Hyundai ix35 was one of our favorite small SUV until it became uncompetitive on pricing since there are clearly better models, like the Nissan Dualis.

Jeep Patriot Vs Hyundai ix35 exterior comparison: The ix35 is not a big car on the outside but it does look better in higher trim packages and it does look modern. However despite the good styling but there is a problem. We’ve looked at each model over and over and couldn’t work out why a new ix35 just doesn’t look new and worked out that it was probably the quality of the paint. The Jeep Patriot looks OK but does not look like a new or a premium model so we’d pick the Hyundai as the winner.

Jeep Patriot Vs Hyundai ix35  interior: Surprisingly time has not been kind to the ix35 and it’s interior feels a little cramped and looks a little dated. We think it is the materials and overall design which are pretty good but not quite classic enough to stand the test of time. It is good but the CX-5 for example is a nicer place to be in. The Patriot interior looks and feels even more dated on the inside.

Jeep Patriot Vs Hyundai ix35 engine and technology: The engines and tech  in the Jeep is up to date but it needs further refinement to match the latest models. The Patriot’s CVT auto does not make it more fuel efficient than even the ix35 in the real world. The ix35 likewise has up to date tech but needs just as much refinement to bring it to the latest small SUVs. The diesel engine option in the ix35 is a a great choice in terms of specifications but not running costs. In this market all the modern diesel engines regardless of Ford, Toyota, Mazda and other all  have higher running costs in the short and long term due to injector issues.

Jeep Patriot Vs Hyundai ix35 on the road: N/A

In the end both are OK cars. The Jeep has to overcome its dated appearance and reliability record while the Hyundai still looks OK but has very respectable reliability history. At least Jeep will reportedly actually honor the warranty unlike the mega fail VW. What’s the point of offering a long warranty Mr Volkwagen if you don’t honor it? (We’ll cover VWs again at a later stage.) The Hyundai is a little expensive believe it or not but in this comparison the better car.
