Suzuki S-Cross

This is the Nissan Qashqai vs Suzuki S-Cross comparison for 2014. The new Suzuki S-Cross is one of the latest entries in to the smallish SUV class and a replacement for the loved but largely ignored SX or Liana. Awkward looks in photos don’t do it justice in real life which looks OK, modern but ultimately conservative. It doesn’t have the ride height to match the equally small SUVs like the Trax, Ecosport or ASX. It’s more like a hatchback with AWD and there’s none of those in this class! As we’ve said many times before the latest Qashqai is essentially the benchmark in the class in (2014) and you need to check this one out first before comparing it to any other smallish SUV.

Nissan Qashqai vs Suzuki S-Cross exterior: The Qashqai is arguably the best looking small SUV on sale at the time of writing. The S-Cross is on the conservative side expect for the front end which in real life actually looks OK. In fact we rate it better than the Mitsubishi ASX.

Nissan Qashqai vs Suzuki S-Cross interior: The S-Cross interior is an OK place to be in. It doesn’t pretend to be anything but a daily driver and the quality reflects that too. Overall the interior is well made but uses an uninspiring but practical design. The Qashqai has great interior design which is conservative but has quality materials throughout. Easy win to the Qashqai.

Nissan Qashqai vs Suzuki S-Cross engine and technology: Both have essentially carry over engines and equipped with CVT gearboxes. The Qashai has many other safety features not on the S-Cross except for the option of AWD. While the S-Cross has the benefit of an all wheel drive system but at a cost. However the key tech feature of the S-Cross is it’s extraordinary light Kerb weight, at just over a ton from (approx 1200kg) the S-Cross looks and feels like a much heavier car. It fact it’s 400kg less than the VW Tiguan yet feels bigger is clearly high tech! Unfortunately it still needs a more powerful engine.

Nissan Qashqai vs Suzuki S-Cross: N/A

The conclusion is simple, the Qashqai still wins despite the higher price. The Suzuki S-Cross does’t really lose the comparison because it is cheaper but it also isn’t really in the same class and price is still on the high side but it is in a class of its own but unfortunately does not have the looks to win over customers in the sort of numbers it needs to succeed.
