Renault have finally released their version of the Nissan X-Trail, the 2017 Renault Koleos and we checked it out at the shops. The last Koleos was a little overpriced and underdone in many areas so we where surprised by the new Koleos. That said, we know Renault is not a prestige or luxury manufacturer but we have come to expect a higher level of materials and design from European manufacturers which the original Koleos did not have. Meanwhile the Nissan X-Trail has been around a 2 years and we where wondering how it has aged considering that there are twins underneath.
Nissan X-Trail vs Renault Koleos exterior: The Renault Koleos look good in real life regardless of model grade. Most of all it does not look like the Nissan X-Trail it is based on although side by side the relationship is clear. The X-Trail design is pretty good too, conservative not many challenging design features yet come clever angles. However the Koleos looks better than the X-Trail overall for some reason.
Nissan X-Trail vs Renault Koleos interior: The X-Trail’s interior is a nice place to be and that applies to most model grades. The Koleos interior no doubt look and feels better than the X-Trail, especially the to top range Intens model that comes with the extra large entertainment system, nice sounding BOSE stereo and panoramic sunroof and the option of different coloured trim. The X-Trail still look and feel nice and loge room ambience is still preferable to ‘executive office’ feel of many new SUVs. While the Koleos doesn’t reach the office feel it’s not too far off. Thanks to the large screens including the dashboard instruments the less obvious cheaper plastic the Koleos is the better interior.
Nissan X-Trail vs Renault Koleos engines and technology: The petrol engine is shared between the two models but only the Nissan has the option of a diesel. While the X-Trail has a ton of safety systems and the the Koleos matches it and adds emergency braking so narrowly wins this part of the comparison.
Nissan X-Trail vs Renault Koleos drive: N/A.
The winner of this comparison between the X-Trail vs and Renault Koleos is : the Koleos. The Koleos presents better than the X-Trail in most parts and most of all has competitive pricing. Sure Nissan offer a ton of incentives on the X-Trail which make it a perfectly good a bit larger than small SUV but for the city centric buyer the Koleos has more tangible features. If all else is the same and the brands are equal than presentation vs pricing will be the only thing will determine which is the winner of any comparison and this is the case here.
