Welcome to the 2015 Toyota Hilux vs 2016 Toyota Hilux review and comparison.  Ot’s an old vs new comparison since you can still find an old model in the right spec if you try. Arguably the most important model release for Toyota since this model is the consistent best seller. The brand image is clear and proven so the default choice for many – the bench mark for packing reasons. It enters the maket where virtually every competitor has released new of refreshed light commercial vehicle (LCV) or utes in the last 12 months and rightly so since the Hilux release date was well known.

2015 Toyota Hilux vs 2016 Toyota Hilux interior comparison: The interior of the new Hilux brings it up to date but with a style that reminds us of the the 1980’s version. Regardless it looks completely different and definitely in line with Toyota’s latest interior design  language. Better materials, controls and dash make the new Hilux worth the effort.

2015 Toyota Hilux vs 2015 Toyota Hilux exterior comparison: Although new the Hilux’s exterior design is not particularly different just an update or refresh on the older design.

2015 Toyota Hilux vs 2015 Toyota Hilux engines and technology comparison: No question the new 2016 Hilux has available quite a number of features not available to the old Hilux. However there is really no standout technology or engines – as expected from Toyota. The only flaw is the rip off two model turbo tune in the in 2.8 litre diesel! Admittedly they are reasonable clear that the lower tune is for 4×2 and full power for the 4×4 versions.  Regardless the use of the two different engine tuning adds to complexity for no gain in anything with the exception of customer dissatisfaction, possible confusion and additional cost in maintenance especially if you have a fleet to manage.

The conclusion is, yes it is the new Hilux and yes it is a definite improvement from the old model. The prices are up across the range but Toyota believes that we will fall for the air-con is included as standard trick. It is nice to know air-con standard but you are still paying for it so how does that become a selling point? The 2 different turbo tuning is also a bit of a rip off especially from Toyota. As a package especially when price is taken into account the Mitsubishi Triton appeals more than the new Hilux. Note that the specifications are for the most popular variant the 4×4 Dual-cab.
