This is the new Jeep Renegade Vs Honda HR-V comparison. Both are new models to the small SUV class of 2015 and since they are linked by marketing we decided to do a quick comparison. We like the HR-V and rank it highest for practicality in the class although we think the CX-3 (our current favourite for now) is arguably the better one for more emotional reasons. The Jeep on the hand is impressive for a new Jeep however it has significant flaws as we’ve found out.
Jeep Renegade CX-3 Vs Honda HR-V exterior: Each to their own in this department but we like the Jeep Renegade’s retro individuality exterior panels yet somehow integrated but we also like the conventional but good looking HR-V as well. Both have odd rear designs which is clearly a trend in 2016.
Jeep Renegade Vs Honda HR-V interior: The HR-V is the winner in terms of having more space yet in a more compact body. The HR-V does have a little ‘magic’ after all! In terms of look and feel we think the Jeep has a edge in terms of overall materials but the HR-V feels just as nice really and we like the touch panels although less practical the button and knobs…. We’ be happy in either SUV to be honest, but if you like light then the HR-V has plenty whereas the Renegade really needs the optional sun roof to let more light in to feel better, as the square sides and roof make it feel darker.
Jeep Renegade Vs Honda HR-V engine and technology: Both have the latest tech safety wise and much the same for in car entertainment so the real differentiation lies in the engine and drive train. The HR-V has a single engine option from the Civic but a CVT. Even with ‘pre-defined gear ratios’ the performance is fine just too smooth to notice how relatively fast it is. (We don’t like CVTs as engine noise does not reflect performance – like media PR usually) The the Jeep Renegade has multiple engines and regular gearboxes but all the engine choices are under done. The Renegade is available in off road capable 4WD whereas the HR-V in this market only has front wheel drive. Both aren’t fast cars or SUVs just normal – in the HR-V especially since the CVT gearbox as always makes the most of the engine’s performance and dependent on engine choice the Jeep Renegade’s performance can either be a slug or normal.
Jeep Renegade Vs Honda HR-V drive: Coming soon.
The conclusion is that we are more interested in the HR-V than our initial set of reviews, that said we also think the Renegade is worth a look too. What became clear was that the HR-V is a better car and SUV for people in the real world who want space and flexibility. It is seemingly bigger on the inside than outside rather than a conventional and sedan like Renegade despite being a wagon if you get our drift. The Jeep Renegade is nice and will do if you must have a Jeep – it presents well which is great – but it is flawed but being seriously overpriced at the moment even if they already dropped the RRP by a couple thousand a month after launch and mostly unproven reliability as it is a Jeep.
