2017 Mazda CX-9

Welcome to the comparison between the all new Mazda CX-9 Vs Kia Sorento comparison. We rate the recently updated Kia Sorento highly in the medium sized SUV class and believe that every brand will need to worry about it. However with the release of the the new Mazda CX-9, so far honestly is the best priced, presented and specified medium SUV at the moment. We’ve only checked out the Sorento recently hence comparison required.

Mazda CX-9 Vs Kia Sorento exterior comparison: As usual Mazda has shown that it can design great looking cars that go with the times. The CX-9 looks great no question and clearly a Mazda which shows design discipline! There is a small concession to practicality as the angle and window treatment of the rear side windows are a little like the Kluger however design touches and higher quality plastics on the rear end light treatment make it look more ‘expensive’.  The Kia Sorento look good but too much like Toyota Kluger except smaller to make much of a styling statement. Ease win in looks comparison to the CX-9.

Mazda CX-9 Vs Kia Sorento interior comparison: There’s plenty of space in the CX-9 thanks to being bigger whereas Kia still needs to work on designing interior for space efficiency. Both interiors are well presented but the Mazda’s interior is better in looks and feel but the Sorento is not that far behind. The more car like interior in the Mazda is good but we prefer the more chair like seating in a SUV as the pedal appear to far forward if the height is adjusted – try it for your self. The Sorento impresses if you have not been in the new CX-9 yet and we prefer the seating position although the seat could be a little wider or is it longer?

Mazda CX-9 Vs Kia Sorento engines and technology comparison: The CX-9 only has one engine option and its been tuned for power, economy and relatively low maintenance. The two engine options for the Sorento are good too with traditional V6 and diesel but all carry overs. The CX-9 has the latest safety systems whereas the Kia only has some and missing auto braking which we think is becoming essential but then the CX-9 has a greater price range. The stereo system the CX-9 sounds better too if that’s a priority but missing App support fro your mobile phone although nice not essential. In term of tech gadgets there is plenty in the top range Sorento but are in the

Mazda CX-9 Vs Kia Sorento drive comparison: Coming very soon!

The Mazda CX-9 so far presents really well in the specification comparison and in the showroom and is better than the Sorento. That said the Sorento is very good too in the same criteria. In terms of pricing the CX-9 is higher but has more equipment and is the bigger SUV hence justifies the difference. However we think the top range CX-9 priced around $65,000 is on the expensive side even if it does present better than the top range Kia Sorento.

In regards to problem with the Kia 7 year warranty? Well its great PR to get main stream buyers and press bonus points but we would like to point out that the Kia 7 year warranty is mostly marketing to help Kia boost re-sale values and keep problems from getting out into the mainstream. eg. broken seats and door trim and failed motorised and computer controlled gadgets are regarded a wear and tear and not covered by warranty. We don’t doubt the reliability of Kia but point this key problem but not just the Sorento.
