Welcome to the comparison between the all new Mazda CX-9 Vs Land Rover Discover Sport comparison. The Land Rover Discovery Sport is a relatively new entry into the price class and is about 50cm shorter than the CX-9. The Discovery Sport is not related to the regular Discovery 3. The new Mazda CX-9 is currently our favourite medium sized SUV and the only growing issue we have with it is whether it should be called a medium sized SUV rather than large!
Land Rover Discovery Sport Vs Mazda CX-9 exterior comparison: The Discovery Sport looks good but it does look like a Japanese SUV e.g. the previous generation Toyota RAv4. Apart from the very nice front end the rest of the design is pretty conservative and not particular premium as its price suggests, even the 2016 Kia Sportage looks more interesting and most importantly the Kia in top level trim looks more expensive. The rear end of the Discovery Sport rates a mentions as being challenging to admire from a design point of view. The new CX-9 looks great in comparison with perhaps the tyre profile on the base model being not quite right.
Mazda CX-9 Vs Land Discovery Sport interior comparison: This part is going to be very short as the conclusion is clear. The Discovery Sport does have a nice interior but premium interior by 2016 standards and it is also smaller than the Mazda CX-9 but the price is not. Option packs are needed to make the Land Rover feel like it should. That said it is a Land Rover not a ‘Ranger Rover’ although we thinks just a excuse to still charge you more. However it is a nice conventional design feels good and a little like a more upmarket Suzuki Grand Vitara. There are 7 seats in the Discovery Sport is a nice addition too but it one of the smallest 7 seaters and simply dangerous for everyone except the front seats! The CX-9 has a great interior design and quality and better than the Land Rover.
Mazda CX-9 Vs Land Rover Discovery Sport engines and technology comparison: The Mazda CX-9 has all the latest safety technology available the Land Rover Discovery Sport does not – simple. There are two decent engine options available in the Discovery Sport but they are carry overs from the Evoque and various Ford models, plenty of power but relatively high real world economy. The only technology feature that stands out is the inclusion or a 4WD system which is claimed to be very useful and it’s all automatic or button operation is a bonus for city folk who choose to buy the Discovery Sport but then again its no better than say the Subaru Outback. The CX-9 has all the latest engine tech and it shows.
Mazda CX-9 Vs Land Rover Discovery Sport drive comparison: Coming soon.
The Mazda CX-9 does present really well and is a bargain compared to the Discovery Sport. When we see cars or SUVs like the Land Rover Discovery Sport for sale at such a high price you’d expect a killer feature list that sets it apart from the rest but it doesn’t and sells purely on brand name. (A 4WD system in 2016 is not a killer feature in 2016 especially if it will never go off road or have a surplus of power) You’d be much happier in the CX-9 a much more impressive SUV and as much steet cred in our eyes as the Discovery Sport.
