Welcome to the all new Suzuki Ignis vs Toyota CH-R comparison for 2017. These are two of the latest small SUV released this year and a perfect time to compare them. They do not compete in the small price segment in terms of pricing but they are clearly compete for your attention as exclusive city SUVs. We like the Suzuki Ignis as a complete package and how it’s priced so well in that it competes with all the micro to small hatchbacks in size and pricing as well the smaller SUVs as well. Only comparing the two because their new models.
Suzuki Ignis vs Toyota CH-R exterior comparison: There’s no competition really, both are styled differently to appeal to certain types of buyers. The CH-R will appeal to those who like modern and sporty and those who like modern/retro will love the Ignis. We must note that the CH-R in real life does not look as good as in the pictures for some reason. It was quite the opposite with the Ignis and was impressed at how large it was in real life. However ignoring all the price, specs and so forth we prefer the CH-R in the driveway if living in the suburbs but the Ignis if we lived in the city.
Suzuki Ignis Vs Toyota CH-R interior comparison: The CH-R has a nice interior it’s modern filled with nice materials and nice ambience it’s everything that a Toyota should represent in 2017. We can’t really fault the design or build quality for the price range and indeed it’s one of the best in the class. The CH-R interior is a comfortable place to sit in front or rear and all the model grades are basically the same except for seat materials. The size is essentially the same as a Corolla. Overall the CH-R looks and feels like a more upmarket Corolla and one that doesn’t feel like you’re sitting in an office as per European interiors. On the other hand the Suzuki Ignis is also a nice place to be in although clearly a cheaper environment and more youthful and stylised rather than stylish. For the retail price is perfectly suitable.
Suzuki Ignis Vs Toyota CH-R engines and and technology comparison: The winner is the Toyota CH-R because it has the most comprehensive safety features as standard but that’s the only reason. The Igins has more tech built in like the amazingly light chassis in 2017 and it has more in car entertainment. The small turbo engine in the CH-R is clearly under-stressed making barely more power than the much older and very ordinary 1.5 litre engine in the Yaris and much less than the equilivent Corolla! The CH-R also weighs around well over 500kg more than the Ignis of any model grade.

The winner of the Suzuki Ignis Vs Toyota CH-R comparison in a draw. They are in different classes not only in size, appearance and features and performance. It is unlikely that buyers will cross shop between the two models due to all three factors. The Ignis will leave a smile on your face as you cut through traffic and park almost anywhere, you also be out dragging a CH-R with little effort. (The Ignis will always be first of the line thanks to low kerb weight.) Overall you be using lots of revs but the fuel consumption will still be the same if past experience with this type of engine is any indication. The CH-R will be a comfortable ride but a slow one, which it’s major problem. It is a good looking SUV and perfect, if style is what you are after foremost but it is a ‘turtle dressed as a greyhound’. We suspect that Toyota deliberately equipped it with a slow engine to save Corolla sales.
