Honda CR-V Vs Mitsubishi Outlander Comparison

Honda CR-V

Mitsubishi Outlander

This is the Honda CR-V Vs Mitsubishi Outlander comparison for 2017. The current Mitsubishi Outlander model released in 2012 is currently one of the oldest SUV models currently available so we decide to compare it to one of the newest releases to see how it compares.

Honda CR-V Vs Mitsubishi Outlander exterior: This Mitsubishi Outlander is a refresh of the original release from 2012. The original was a bit of a fail due primarily to it’s ‘futuristic’ exterior styling which was adventurous and odd looking and to many ugly. Mitsubishi is not new to offering forward looking designs that are unique in the class. This of course doesn’t help car buyers who are not so adventurous which the majority are. This update in 2015 is certainly helped by being styled for the masses and is surprising how they managed to change the design without more significant changes. We like the design but its a little of proportion looking too thin for the front mainly. The new CR-V is clearly an evolution of the superseded model design and now is more aggressive and has European in design themes. The CR-V looks good and has a more upmarket appearance than the Outlander.

Honda CR-V Vs Mitsubishi Outlander interior: The Mitsubishi Outlander’s interior is good for it’s age but it is dated in terms of materials and simple design. That said the materials and feel are honestly very good for it’s age and it is comfortable place to be in. The design is hampered but being more car or wagon like rather the traditional SUV. While the Outlander is physically bigger the interior size feels about the same size.  The stereo system has all the latest connectivity options including large screen, digital radio across the range and it sounds decent too. Overall just the presentation needs an update. The new CR-V on the other hand looks and feels more modern and upmarket interior to be in. The interior is more spacious and has all the latest interior appointments and storage ideas with better overall design.

Honda CR-V Vs Mitsubishi Outlander engine and technology: The technology available in the various in the Outlander model grades are fantastic for an older model. All models have a variety of safety systems as standard or in one simple optional package that even includes adaptive cruiser control. The safety pack is available to all models and standard on some which is decent choice. The engine choices are the more numerous and appropriately optioned from the base 2 litre, 2.4 litre, turbo diesel and the top range plug in hybrid. There is not turbo tuning rip off here unlike the VW Tiguan. The in car entertainment has Android and Apple compatibility and decent a decent sounding stereo system. On the other hand Only the CR-V only top range models get all the safety system and a single engine powerful turbo engine and standard auto gearbox. Both have CVTs which is a bit a shortfall. The Outlander easily wins the engine and technology comparison against the CR-V.

Honda CR-V Vs Mitsubishi Outlander drive report : N/A

The conclusion and winner of the Honda CR-V Vs Mitsubishi Outlander comparison is yet another draw! The Outlander has a lot to commend it in specification it has all the last safety tech, fully optioned stereo system that sounds decent. The Outlander’s safety package is either standard or optional unlike the Honda which you currently cannot get except on the top range model. The Outlander’s safety package is the key difference along with it’s frequent special offers lift the older model to ‘must consider’ status. The Outlander is the only affordable SUV Hybrid although relatively expensive makes it worth a good look. The Honda CR-V has the fatal flaw of the lacking desirable safety features apart from that it a great modern SUV package with competitive pricing. Ultimately for us the Outlander PHEV is the most desirable model unfortunately it’s interior needs and update before serious consideration as with on-road costs taken into account the Outlander will cost just under $60,000 and we’d expect an interior and exterior that reflects it’s price tag.
