Welcome to the all new Hyundai Kona Vs Suzuki Vitara review/comparison for 2017. The Vitara has been around for a few years and we like it but not every model in the range only those with the turbo manual as test driven. The Kona so far isn’t a standout except for it’s good looks but sad interior, so we checked them out back to back to see which one we would prefer.
Hyundai Kona Vs Suzuki Vitara exterior comparison: The Kona is a good looking car or SUV no question but we wonder how long the plastics will resist fading in the sun. The Suzuki Vitara exterior design is not particularly sleek it still looks modern and half decent despite being boxy and a few years older. The 2017 refresh gives it a more appealing silhouette but in the end we’d prefer the Kona in the driveway.
Hyundai Kona Vs Suzuki Vitara interior comparison: This is probably the only comparison in 2017 where both interiors look and feel just about the same. The hard plastics all over the Vitara clearly explain it’s market positioning as does it’s exterior design however the design looks and is more integrated and arguably feels more sturdy than the Kona. In comparison the Kona has better materials throughout but the it looks and feels deliberately down market except in price.
Hyundai Kona Vs Suzuki Vitara engines and and technology comparison: Both have a choice of engines, with the Vitara having a diesel which is quite popular in many countries but the standout for both is the turbo petrol models. The out right power figures may be down on the Vitara but the Vitara weighs about 300 kilograms less than the heavy Kona which is an impressive technical achievement for the Vitara as is the slightly large car. The only flaw in the Vitara is the lack of leading edge safety systems specifically auto brakes. Sure the standard safety systems are industry standard in 2017 until auto brakes comes as standard it won’t win our comparison. Likewise the Kona does not have auto brakes as standard across the range. Finally the stereo system in the Vitara looks and sound better although both have Apple and Android compatibility.
Hyundai Kona Vs Suzuki Vitara drive comparison: Haven’t driven the Kona yet but the Suzuki Vitara is a nice ride reasonable quiet, responsive steering feel the turbo engine in particular and decent gearbox.
The winner of the Hyundai Kona Vs Suzuki Vitara is a draw. Choosing between the Vitara and Kona is basically an exterior and pricing contest. We almost always choose the winner of a comparison by it’s superior overall package but this time it’s hard to pick. Mind you the diesel version of the Vitara is a little expensive for just that engine. The most important thing to note is that the Kona is a little disappointing for a brand new model compared to the Vitara. Finally neither has auto brakes standard across the range hence a draw.
