Welcome to the all new Hyundai Kona Vs Subaru XV comparison for 2018. We been doing the Kona comparisons for the last few months while it’s still fresh in our heads and after so many it is clear where the 2018 Kona rates on our list of smallish SUVs. The recently release Subaru XV in 2017 means that it is a shoe it’s first comparison and the last for the Hyundai Kona for a little while.
Hyundai Kona Vs Subaru XV exterior comparison: The Kona is a good looking SUV with up to the minute styling for 2018 however the appearance will fade due to the large slabs of plastic cladding. The Subaru XV has matched the Kona’s styling and to us the XV is more refined and expensive looking design although it’s in the same price range. The wider and sleeker angles, thicker paint on the Subaru makes a difference. Mind you the new XV design hasn’t really changed from the last XV.
Hyundai Kona Vs Subaru XV interior comparison: The Kona’s interior does not match the good looking exterior looks but regardless it is below par for the any other SUV we’ve compared it against in the class. The Subaru XV interior is easily the nicer place to be in. The quality of materials and design in the XV is one of the best in this price range aka up to $35,000 it’s a great place to be in.
Hyundai Kona Vs Subaru XV engines and and technology comparison: The Kona has all the latest engine tech with a DCT auto in some models as well as a high power turbo engine for the class. Safety systems are also standard or optional which is nice to know. However in comparison to the Subaru the Kona’s features are underdone. Where do we start…the AWD system is more advanced and proven as well as standard, all sort of collision avoidance system and adaptive cruise control all bundled in what they call the ‘Eyesight’ safety system. Unfortunately only the base model misses out on this system which means it can never win a comparison against a car that does but in this case the Kona who’s system is also optional. The XV has a fast stereo system that is directly compatible with Apple and Android phones and sounds OK without the branding. The Kona turbo engine option is the best thing about it as it is fitted with a DCT auto which so far as caused so many problems for every manufacturer to date. The only major flaw with the XV is the low powered engine and CVT gearbox.
Hyundai Kona Vs Subaru XV drive comparison: N/A
The winner of the Hyundai Kona Vs Subaru XV is the XV. Although the starting price of the XV is higher due to standard AWD the it the top range XV is cheaper than the equilivent Kona. Ignoring the engine and transmission the XV is easily the better SUV as it has a ton of general features and safety system beyond the Kona. It’s not a tough choice because for the same amount of money we’d rather have the Subaru XV. The only thing the Kona has which is better than the XV is the engine and regular gearbox however that is tempered with a DCT auto every Hyundai Kona model bar the base which is potentially a reliability problem. No one has managed to perfect a DCT transmission that we know of to date. However the VX has problems and that relates to the dealership network which you will discover dependent on which dealer you go to.
