This is the Jeep Compass Vs the updated Nissan Qashqai comparison for 2018. Both SUVs are direct competitors in size and pricing so a comparison was only natural. The Qashqai is one of favourite smallish SUVs for the last few years and the recent update confirms is place as one of best packages currently available. The new Jeep Compass is not one our favourites list for a number of reasons detailed below but in isolation is it quite compelling especially if you are a Jeep brand loyalist.
Jeep Compass Vs Nissan Qashqai exterior comparison: The Qashqai is a still a good looking SUV, its sporty modern yet conservative enough to appeal to many buyers it is the quintessential Japanese design. The new Jeep Compass is essentially a shrunken Grand Cherokee in design. Sure there are plenty of differences to accommodate for the same platform as the Renegade but the profile is the same. As a result if the Compass didn’t have a decent paint job it wouldn’t look like a new car. In there end its a personal decision and we prefer the Qashqai.
Jeep Compass Vs Nissan Qashqai interior comparison: The Qashqai’s interior hasn’t changed much over the years and it remains a nice place to be in. Equipped with a nice quality and ambience that improves as you go up through the model grades. Yes, you can get the premium branded Nappa leather trim. The Jeep Compass has made a significant step up in terms of design and quality and its price matches the quality and design that you get. That said the design is not in the same league as the Qashqai due to the toy like design although has mostly better quality materials. The start/stop button looks like an afterthought does not leave a good initial impression. Does the Compass look and fell better than Qashqai on the inside for the higher price? Don’t think so.
Jeep Compass Vs Nissan Qashqai engine and technology comparison: The Qashqai engine choice is pretty simple, non turbo engine CVT transmission and it has auto emergency brakes as standard across the range. Other safety systems include pedestrian, rear cross traffic, lane alert, surround camera, assisted parking and everything else you want basically. There is even a BOSE stereo system as a option, the last time we looked. That said there will be a turbo diesel later in the year in 2018? The Jeep Compass has the standard airbags, ABS and traction control but little else. Let’s face it even a much cheaper base model Toyota Yaris even has auto brakes missing on the Jeep. In terms of engines the Compass has a standard engine multiple gearbox and with the dreaded DCT option, dependent on whether you want 4WD or not. The Qashqai definitely has more equipment than the Compass minus the 4WD and much cheaper and pretty equivalent in terms of performance as the Compass weighs 300kg more!
Jeep Compass Vs Nissan Qashqai drive report : N/A
The conclusion and winner of the Jeep Compass Vs Nissan Qashqai comparison is the Qashqai. The Qashqai is the winner due to pricing. You get an SUV that’s a very well equipped for the price and most of all justifies by it’s presentation. Sure there are problems with the Qashqai that can cause a potential buyer to step back that includes is mainly the drive train specially the CVT and non-turbo engine or perhaps the missing 4WD system? The fact that the Jeep Compass has a more serious 4WD is countered by the DCT gearbox and the lack of safety systems and the price to include them. While the Compass looks and feels decent, it is definitely not enough to be $2500-$6000 more than the Qashqai since if you have to buy the optional extra safety systems and put up with a DIY looking start button.
