Welcome to the Holden Colorado vs Isuzu D-Max comparison for 2018. No Ute comparison would be complete without the this comparison since both are based on the platform. It is not the first time Isuzu has developed a utes for both brands as per the last Holden ute the Rodeo. The Isuzu utes are targeted at commercial buyers while Holden wants a more mass market appeal much like the other brands. Choosing which one will be an interesting experience for the potential buyer for reasons of street cred, price equipment spec and brand.
Holden Colorado vs Isuzu D-Max exterior comparison: Both are the more challenging utes to look at but the Colorado is arguably the least offensive. They have very similar side profiles, only front on and rear are notably different. Since the Isuzu is the base for the Colorado the lack of any significant changes to differentiate the two models indicate half arsed treatment by Holden to its customers. Witness Ford Ranger and Mazda BT50 using the same base but quite efferent to look at. Finally the D-Max has high rider versions which is the regular 2WD D-Max given the higher suspension of the 4WD models.
Holden Colorado vs Isuzu D-Max interior comparison: The interior of both different significantly and a factor that 2018 shoppers will be considering seriously. The D-Max is truly commercial grade and unchanged to the original design from 2012 also used by the Colorado when released. The D-Max interior is not luxurious place to be or even remotely close, it’s commercial grade throughout. It will only apply to those to aren’t fussed about hard plastic that look hard throughout and means it’s not inviting to be in. At this sort of price tag that is a big problem. The updated Holden colorado interior is a much nicer place to be but there are still notable cheap parts especially the steering wheel, lower centre stack which is disappointing when looking at the competition. There are lots of storage spots in both utes which adds to their appeal. In the end the Colorado clearly has the nicer interior.
Holden Colorado vs Isuzu D-Max engine and technology comparison: The most noticeable difference between the two models mechanically is the engine choice. The Isuzu has the old 4JJ1 3 litre turbo diesel engine that is proven and reliable although not particularly powerful compared to the Colorado. The Colorado has the latest 2.8 turbo diesel dubbed Duromax series which may be quite a good thing as it is a new series of engines and long term reliability is still unknown. They have different gearboxes but the part time 4WD system by all accounts the same in both. They also have different stereo system packages with the Holden having Apple and Android connectivity. Apart from that its essentially the same tech package.
Holden Colorado vs Isuzu D-Max drive comparison: NA
The winner of the Holden Colorado vs Isuzu D-Max comparison is the Colorado. The Colorado wins purely due to the nicer interior and engine package. If your considering picking either by price – gorget it – the competition the pricing for both are so varied that you can basically ignore the recommended retail pricing and plenty of specials but you need to check the newspapers not the internet. The final factor is the promise of reliability as these are essentially commercial vehicles and that is where the Isuzu gains ground and sure it may be down on power but neither is particularly fast expect in your dreams!
